Frank Wilson has been not been on an LSU football staff that won a championship…not even the SEC championship.

Money is the most important part of recruiting, and now that it’s legal, players have way more options. Therefore, the relationship part of it isn’t as important, which means guys like Frank Wilson aren’t as important.

Frank, like most, are excellent recruiters as long as they have that LSU brand on the chest.

It’s always 90% brand and 10% ability to close. No different than any other business development or sales job.
Absolutely!

While I was a big Frank guy because of his recruiting history in the past, I wasn’t upset over the fact that he left simply because our RB room hasn’t been up to par as of late and it seems guys would regress under him. But the stuff about him on the recruiting trail leading up to NSD was very true. Frank had been talking down on LSU once he knew Lane was coming in and wasn’t gonna keep him.

And look not to hijack your thread but still to this day he’s telling these recruits how bad of a person Lane is both today and in the past when they were at Tennessee, and airing all the dirty laundry on the LSU staff. The stuff that made it to this board about him advising the New Orleans kids to look elsewhere when he was still here was not a rumor. He’s been on a rampage since then and is making it his business to talk down on LSU to any recruit he can. I know all of this for a fact because he’s recruiting my little cousin and this was discussed with Frank himself.

Talk about sour grapes and next level entitlement. It’s clear he’s bitter and upset that LSU didn’t give him the head coaching job. Explains why Kiffin has been traveling to every LA HS recently and building a rapport and relationship to combat the negative recruiting rampage Frank Wilson is on. Frank’s development hasn’t been up to par it’s insane he thot he was owed being able to keep his spot as rb coach. That Houston bowl game was one of the pettiest coaching jobs I’ve ever seen giving berry less than 10 carries and then punting on 4th 2 was laughable. He had no business coaching that game he should’ve been gone as soon as it was reported he accepted the ole miss job. Wilson did a lot for us but he’ll never be bigger then the LSU brand his ego got the best of him

FW did “BK and Orgeron Zero”, LAZY! Now he MAY work-to-get-back-at-LSU!! He was way overrated and his coaching was always suspect, a la Johnny EX-LAX Jones….

Wilson was over rated LSU made him a good recruiter. Show me his record when he wasn’t here.

Saban was told during his second or third year at LSU that he needed to hire Frank Wilson because he was needed to lock down New Orleans.
Saban brought him in for an interview, was disappointed with his coaching knowledge, and decided to hire someone else.
I remember some angst on LSU boards but Saban told us at the Gridiron Club “I could hire him to recruit but I would have to teach him to coach”.
Orgeron then hired Frank when he got the Ole Miss job. Frank did hurt us a bit recruiting against Les Miles.
Wilson was never a good coach though.

Kevin Smith wasn’t at LSU yet.

I suggested to throw the bank at Smith as an analyst and to keep Frank for recruiting New Orleans.

CLK sealed the deal on Smith, and wanted him at rb coach.

I trust him.

Smith is a Tiger.

Time to handle business.
