How do you build a team the "right way". I keep hering that he is doing it the right way. Sounds awesome if it is true. What should I be looking at?

Building a team the right way involves sucking donkey nuts for 2 years hoping that poor players will become mediocre their senior years.

I'm not an expert, I just love hoops.

But when I say it, I mean in simplest terms, not cheating.

Not slumming with the AAU underworld and hiring out pimps like "Worldwide Wes" who Calipari uses and his go between to get players. Not paying kids are promising them unethical incentives to come here, hiring their high school coach (which Dale did 4 times at least) to get them, getting their Mom a middle income job in Baton Rouge, etc. etc.

Also, making your kids go to class and keep up with their own school work, recruit kids who can be compelled to do that or hit the bricks (hello Mr. Spencer) don't have folks take their SAT's for them (Hello Mr. Wall), and again, etc. etc.

So, our last coach built the program the right way?

I consider myself to be an expert.. as do most on here haha...

but honestly one major problem is the lack of talent baton rouge has produced in recent years.. Brady fed off or B.R. talent.. We are not building a team like kentucky bc we dont have ability to.. So programs like ours wont just become good over night. While i wish we were doing better this year, it will take time. Especially the amount of new comers playing this year. I believe in Trent Johnson. Im affiliated with a college basketball team so i know a little about how things work. But not an expert by any means lol

Oh, I know. I was calling you out because you were clearly trying to passively imply the opposite. However, John Brady fit your definition perfectly.

Brady never lost to Nicholls State. Who knows how we got the players here. All I see with this coach is recruiting kids that hopefully will get us in the NIT, if that is what we want that is what we got here. You have to recruit AAU kids if you want to compete. We have no talent on this team, and this is his third year, Brady won the SEC in his third year.

I thought TJ was supposed to help us recruit out of state and now we are saying the problem is no talent in LA?

Look at Dale Brown recruits, Shaq, CJ, Stanley R, jose Vargas- Dale recruited the world! LA was just a stop on the tour

Dale also had the passion of an evangelist with extreme furvor. You've got to be an incredible salesman to get these kids away from the Duke, UK, Kansas, et al.

Dale Brown understood what it took to get kids like that. I am not sure TJ will ever understand how to get kids like that to LSU.

Nope, but he lost to quite a few shitty teams.

He won the SEC with Brady's players that included tasmin mitchell who didn't play the year before, ralston turner is the only real player that Tj has signed, stringer is okay, if your truly thinking this team can compete your delusional. I have been watching College basketball for a long time and lsu for 30 years and this is the lowest point in LSU bb history and will be for a while, if the NIT is what you keep your fingers crossed. On the upside the SEC west is terrible so we will probably win a few more games than we did last year in the conference. I am sure LSU was thinking the next coach in his third year would have a product like this.

I guess you need to look at the wrong way.
you get in a future NBA player or two. They stop going to class during the NCAA tournament.
they stay one year and you go as far as they can carry you.

right way. you teach players the fundamentals.
some of them actually learn to shoot free throws at 80%+.
some of them learn to dribble without carrying the ball or taking steps.
they all do their homework and go to class.
they learn how to shoot a jump hook in the lane at a higher percentage than most players can shoot free throws.
They regard each possession as precious.
They go after loose balls.
They work hard on defense.
They can force the other team to take a time out trying to get the ball in bounds.

jr, all I can say is I hope you're wrong.

Trent recruits AAU kids. O'Bryant played AAU ball. I'm sure several of his class that are freshmen this year played AAU ball. He just is not gonna deal with the sewer-dwelling go-betweens. He's gonna deal with kids and their parents. Frankly, I applaud that.

He's gonna try to do it his way and if it falls as flatly as you think he'll be gone in 2-3 years.

He's not gonna get fired this year, so I hope for the sake of my program I hope his way begins to reap dividends.

Brady and Butch had no qualms about rolling in the gutter a bit. The result was a roller coaster ride as IMHO he couldn't sustain continuity with type of players that brings...the Stromile's, Lloreda's, Jabari's, Roland's, Kedrick Brown's, etc., etc. Remember Brady's fourth year? Fifth year?

Have you checked LSU's record Brady's last two seasons?

Regardless of whether Taz was hurt, Brady had a losing record with three future NBA players his last season. He went 5-11 one year after the final four.

This "Brady's Players" thing is BS.
