The NCAA should have issued something along the lines of an advisory opinion to the coaches to let them know they need to dial it back some. Not a complete ban . . . but put it on the coaches to decide what is and is not a good reflection on the team.

So . . . like what they did before the ban?

That is exactly why I can't stand to watch softball

God the NCAA is a crock of shite...Baylor is running rampant and Ole Miss is paying everyone, but lets make sure they dont have props in the dugout for a game.

Did they? If so, and the coaches didn't dial it back, then I agree with the all out ban!

I think this is just a jumping off point before the real fight--the removal of the rally opossum. I think we all know that's what's really going on here.

Yes....the games should be taken seriously.

If you want to grow the game, this ban is the right move, imo. The stupid looking props weren't attracting anyone new, but were ammo for those folks that make fun of the sport.

As a casual observer of college softball, i could see how others would be turned off by the ridiculousness of the props. To me, the TV coverage of softball is bad enough as it discourages a fan of athletics in that it highlights the silly/girly angles more than the athletic aspects.

Do we really think props had any impact on the game's growth? The NCAA should outlaw confirmation bias to grow the game. That's the only way people you describe would ever come around on softball.

Props diminish the game

As for the props in dugout, who cares. Let them have them. As for, "it's all about having fun ", well that's a different story. When a program spends millions to build stadium, hundreds of thousands to pay coaches, it is no longer about having fun. It's about winning. It's fine for little league, and high school
For it to be all about having fun, but I would like to see the young ladies care just a little bit more about winning. It's disheartening to put so much time and money supporting LSU softball, to look into the dugout and watching the ladies laugh it up while losing 4-0 after 2 innings.

Yep, only dumb girls would screw around with stuffed animals and stuff while a serious competition was going on.

Yep. I do. :shrugs: A picture of guys holding a stuffed animal is not equal to the level of props on display at the WCWS last year.

Further, the TV coverage chose to focus on the props as much as the technical aspects of the game. It was distracting to someone, like me, who would like to hear a little more about those technical aspects, as I never had a sister or relative play. I have a young daughter. I'd actually like to learn a little more about the game while enjoying a contest.

Its one stuffed animal.

Not everyone in the dugout wearing something outrageous just for attention.

Football player gets arrested: "He's just a kid. Give him some slack. I got drunk at bars and fought all the time in college."

Softball players wear masks during game: "It's so childish and stupid."

Right. Because they weren't doing that for attention. They certainly didn't have rally corn and home run juice for attention. It is the same thing. It is quirky and "that's just baseball" when the guys do it. The broads do it and it is attention seeking and takes away from the game.
