The thing about LSU’s weak finish in that scenario is that it is not unique amongst SEC teams fighting for the slots the conference is likely to receive. SC has lost 7 of 9 in conference and 4 of their last 5 series. Vandy has lost their last 2 series and 3 of their last 4. Kentucky has lost 5 of 6 series. I don’t see the conference receiving fewer than 3 Top 8 spots and probably 4. LSU should stay ahead of SC unless they sweep Tennessee. Vandy will be close. Even if they pass LSU, there would need to be 5 non-SEC teams that take spots ahead of LSU.

So, who could that be? Wake is the only non-SEC ahead of them in the RPI right now. There are 4 ACC teams between #8 and #14, but they all have conference records similar to LSU in a lower RPI conference. I think one of those teams pulls ahead of LSU in this scenario, but not more than that. Stanford and West Virginia are major conference leaders behind LSU, but they are 16 and 17 in the RPI. Stanford might have a chance to pass LSU, but I don’t think WVU will with the #67 RPI SOS and #128 non-conference SOS. That’s maybe 3 that can pass LSU, so we’re still looking for 2 more. Coastal Carolina is #10 with a worse overall record than LSU and they are only 8-7 Q1 to 16-10 for LSU. They also have 10 non-Q1 losses to only 2 for LSU. I don’t see them passing LSU. Indiana St and DBU are #14 and #15 but 2-9 and 2-5 against Q1. I don’t see anyone else passing them.

Definitely higher than LSU:
1) Wake
2) Arkansas
3) Florida

Maybe ahead of LSU:
4) Vandy
5) Stanford
6) 2nd Place ACC

Slight Chance:
7) West Virginia

Longshot:
3rd Place ACC
Coastal Carolina

After 2 hours, votes are 15-15, so it seems like there is no consensus, and it is still possible for this team to frick away hosting a Super, depending on how things go elsewhere. I hope that message gets into the clubhouse and shite gets unfricked. But short of someone laying hands on Shores and Edwards, I don’t see it happening. They are who they are at this point—a top hitting team with only two pitchers. I’m fully expecting an exit in the Supers (home or away).

How is what this board thinks relevant to the reality of the situation? I suspect many of those saying they won’t get a Top 8 seed are overwhelmed with emotion right now and not thinking clearly.

Meh, crowdsourcing has been proven to be pretty accurate. I’d take the opinions of 30 people who have been following college baseball pretty closely and LSU all season over a couple of national writers who have to cover 300 teams. But if you want to ask David Dellucci or Kyle Peterson or Kendall Rogers, go ahead.

Sure, today they are. I’m asking if that will still be true in two weeks if other wheels come off.

The SEC Tournament is literally meaningless. Both Ole Miss & Auburn went 0fer in the SEC Tournament. Didn’t hurt either team getting 1 into the NCAA tournament (Ole Miss) and 2 hosting (Auburn). Both were considered bubble teams to get into the tournament (Ole Miss) and getting a regional (Auburn) entering the SEC tournament.

Yes, when it is a sufficiently large sample to overcome or balance inherent biases. In this case you are asking for an opinion a day after the fan base took a punch to the gut. That’s not exactly conducive to clear thinking.

Well right now the 7th and 8th teams (Clemson and Coastal Carolina) in the D-1 rankings each have 17 losses and higher RPI's already, so barring something like Vandy and South Carolina winning out thru the SEC tourney final and leap frogging us, I don't see us dropping out of Top 8 with that finish.

If we win 2 out of 3 against Georgia, we will be Top 8, if not we don’t deserve Top 8, the Fall from the Top is swift

wut

We lost by a run and Nicholls had to make a half dozen amazing defensive plays, including a snowcone diving catch for the final out otherwise LSU would’ve won
