So much fail in this thread. People are still butthurt and now act like he wasn't that great. He is no doubt the best playmaker the last 25 years I've been watching LSU football

In terms of quality maybe, but QUANTITY?

I don't care if it was 2 years or 4. He is the best playmaker to wear a LSU jersey!

So, "playmaker" simply means "solid football player"?
I love Devery Henderson and love that he's had a successful pro career, but Mathieu "made" more plays in a typical half of football than Devery "made" in his whole LSU career. Same could be said for any number of the other guys on that list.

Tommy Casanova. Probably the greatest all-around player in LSU history by a fairly comfortable margin. I would also argue that Billy Cannon made more impact plays than Tyrann.
That being said, Tyrann was an exceptional player.

He was on the heisman stage with luck, rg3, trichardson because of his PLAYMAKING abilities. One of the best group of heisman finalists ever. If he was in this groups class he would be the winner

you continue to fail miserably. I would call his freshman season great. He made more plays in two years than most all-americans make in four...and that started with his first game against UNC.

I'd argue TM wasn't even our best player in the secondary while here. He benefited from Mo Claiborne shutting down 3/4 of the fricking field. Notice how great Simon looked last season compared to now.

Brother, I love Tyrann, but you should study Casanova when you have a spare moment. He was a running back, defensive back, kick returner, and punt returner. If I recall correctly, he may have also gotten some snaps at WR. He is LSU's only three-time All-American. He was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, which dubbed him the best player in the nation. He played on LSU's best team of post-Dietzel, pre-Saban era (1969). He was named one of the best CFB players of the twentieth century.
Casanova only played something like six or seven years in the NFL, but made four Pro Bowls.
And he did all of this despite injuries. Had he not been disabled for most of the 1971 season, he would have won the Heisman, IMO.

I'm 41, and have been following LSU football as long as I remember being alive. I speak to may father about football, who has been following LSU as long as HE can remember being alive. I have fond memories of speaking to my grandfather, who had been going to games since the 1920s.
I can appreciate reasoned arguments that would say the above is not a correct statement. And probably would agree with many of them, with regard to a few of the other players listed here.
From everything I know about LSU football, though, I can't say it's a laughably outlandish statement.

this, is the only correct answer to the OP IMO. never saw him play, but all the old codgers seem to go on and on about him.
