why Vandals?
From Wikipedia:
quote:
Idaho’s athletic teams go by a name earned nearly a century ago by a basketball team coached by Hec Edmundson, whose teams played defense with such intensity and ferocity that sports writers said they “vandalized” their opponents. The mark made by that 1917 team went far deeper than wins and losses on the court. In 1917, Harry Lloyd "Jazz" McCarty – a writer for the student newspaper, the Argonaut – tagged the team with a new nickname in a pregame write-up: "The opening game with Whitman will mark a new epoch in Idaho basketball history, for the present gang of 'Vandals' have the best material that has ever carried the 'I' into action." McCarty’s indirect suggestion stuck. By 1921, McCarty and Edward Maslin Hulme, the dean of the College of Liberal Arts, succeeded in their push to have Vandals officially adopted as the nickname for Idaho teams.

Idaho is located in Moscow, Idaho. Moscow has a population of 23,800.
...LSU has a student body of 23,980 (as of Sept. 2011).
Weird, the entire population of the town in which our opponent is located is smaller than our student body and can fit in Tiger Stadium almost four times!!
Plus, Idaho is pretty and they grow potatoes and stuff.

Moscow, ID and Pullman, WA (Washington St. University) are about 10 miles apart.

Moscow, ID is the hometown of Chris Williams, the #1 ranked amateur golfer in the world and a member of the U. Washington golf team. He will be a senior when school starts in a couple of weeks.

It's Coeur D'Alene. Really nice city. Idaho generally is just beautiful.
Idaho Falls is very close to some big nuclear power plant research facilities.

It's strange that they have a cool, but irrelevant name like the Vandals. They should just be the Idaho Potatoes.
