I can’t name one. I don’t know one where he would be the leader year 2.
The fact is, he would be in a battle to start in 2024 at LSU - just as he would be at any P5 school.
Unless he’s going G5, he had as good a chance to win the job here as anywhere else.
Just an odd, illogical situation.
Well another thing to factor is the NCAA just updated the Portal rules for 2nd time transfers (i.e. the JT Daniels Situation USC to UGA to West Virginia now to Rice). So starting next year, if a player hits the portal once, ok. The 2nd time will require the player to sit out for 1 year, save for 2 issues, both medical, physical or mental health issues (which are going to have to be documented I am sure by the Team Doctors of the school the player is transfer from).
I think all these players in the portal is starting to impact kids coming out of HS football. The NCAA does not want the portal to be 2,000 or so kids every year.
Regarding Howard and P5, that is a broad set of teams, so I will stick with the SEC. I heard Jordy this morning pushing Bama and UGA. Give me a freaking break.
UGA has 3 kids who I think are all from Southern Georgia (they are all from GA) who are on scholarship.
Beck 2020: High 4****
Vandagrift 2021 High 5*****
Stockton 2022 High 4****
So Howard leaves LSU, with JD5 and Nuss who have more experience to go to UGA with 3 guys having more experience. The starter Beck has 2 more years, at LSU JD5 has 1.
Bama has 4 top 150 guys on Scholarship. Milroe from the 2021 class, Simpson from the 2022 class and Lonergan and Holstein from the 2023 class who are both enrolled and practiced with Bama for the Cotton bowl.
So while there is no clear starter at Bama going into Spring ball 2023 to get QB1 for 2023, there are 4 247 composite top 100-150 guys already on the roster. He will another top 100 guy with the other 4.
There is not 1 SEC school he can 100% start for next year.
TENN: Milton
SCAR: Rattler
Arkansas: KJ
MSU: Rodgers
UK: the NC State transfer
Aggie: Weigman
UGA: Beck with 2 top 150 QB's also on roster
Ole Miss: Dart: trying to bring in Sanders from Ok State, 3-4 year starter there
Auburn: Ashford, although the Right Reverend Freeze is also trying to bring in Sanders from Ok. State
Alabama: No clear starter but 4 top 100-150 guys on scholarship.
Florida: has 2 Portal experienced QB's from Wisconsin and Ohio State.
MIZZOU: Brady Cook? Well he could probably beat that guy out, but does he want to go to MIZZOU
Vandy: He could probably beat whoever is the QB there, but does he want to go to Vandy.

when you have a 5* QB coming in that is objectively more talented than the current roster.
Not sure you know the meaning of the word “objectively” and you keep throwing out recruiting rankings when they are not relevant at this stage.
I’m actually very high on Howard in the future, but thinking he is a guaranteed starter NEXT YEAR in the P5 is ludicrous and not based on anything tangible.
Thinking that a school like Syracuse would bench a three year starter who is a senior for an unproven freshman is silly. Thinking Ole Miss would bench Jaxson Dart for Walker Howard is a joke.

I don't think TCU is really a viable option; they have guys returning from a playoff run. I don't think the coach there is going to bring outsiders in
He already brought in Bech so I don't think he cares about bringing in outsiders. Also Duggan is gone and the QB who beat out Max is returning off injury but it doesn't mean he isn't going to compete for the job. Its likely he wins the job outright or gets playing time again because the guy gets hurt. So I think TCU is a good option.
The schools that worried me were still Auburn (been tampering with LSU players already and Hugh would like a QB of his own), Florida, Ole Miss, and Bama(Milroe will not be the QB there is a reason they tried to get Maye, I think if given the chance they would gladly take Howard).

Bama
Lol. Seriously?
If Bama thought they needed a starter, they could’ve grabbed the 20 starters who were in the portal.

He isn't necessarily looking to be a starter next year. But a situation where the starter is in his last year and Howard will be the sure fire backup for next year and the favored starter for 2024 is what he is looking for.
Being the heir apparent and backup will ensure that he is getting good practice reps, getting some real game time, and most importantly getting developed.
At LSU it appears that he was very disappointed with his development and lack of attention from coaches. I guess JD soaked up a lot of attention from coaches trying to teach him to throw all season. Perhaps the receivers were going to be sent to California to get alone time with JD. And 2023 wasn't going to change except the addition of a new frosh who might be a favorite of BK since he was his recruit.
And there are a lot of good programs where Howard will be the backup and clear favorite to win the starting job the next year. Some even give him the chance to win the job this year.

Neither Howard or Morris are close talent wise to Bryce Young otherwise Saban would be trying to get either of them through the portal.
