People need to remember that this injury is mostly about pain management for the player at this point. I think the reason he practiced is because he told the coaches he wanted to try to give it a go. It's not about the risk of further harm ... it's just a very painful injury. If Miles gets to the point where he feels he can stand the pain, he'll try to play. He's a competitor. Sounds like he gave it a go but it was still too much at this point. I guarantee you when you do see him play again, if it's this year, he'll be playing in pain and just sucking it up. The injury won't be fully healed.

The way I look at it, we have three losses already this season. Putting Myles in while he’s hampered by injury against elite SEC dlines is just asking for him to get another injury because he won’t be full go. I would rest him until around the Florida game, and see then how he is in practice. If he’s not 100% full go, O shouldn’t, and probably won’t play him. I hate to see any of our kids injured, but dammit I hate seeing Myles unable to play after all he’s battled through.

so weird that I’ve never heard of this type of injury in sports before.

Oblique (the "core muscle" you are referring to) injuries happen quite often in baseball due to the torque that goes into throwing (particularly pitchers) and swinging. They are not nearly as commonplace in football (even for QB's).

To some degree, yes. It's the way he took the hit along the sideline that did it. His feet were planted and when he lowered his shoulder the defender torqued his upper body back violently. I would imagine him not being a particularly "big" guy made him more susceptible to the injury in that collision.

At this point apply for a medical redshirt or something

Doesn't have to. This season doesn't count as a year of eligibility for any player.

Two torn ligaments and he will be going through a three week eval period. If pain persists, surgery and would be done for the year. I believe the three weeks started this past Monday.
