I try to view progress of the LSU football program to date agnostic of "purple and geauxd" glasses.

When I do that, I see a team that had two very disappointing prior seasons and a roster gutted before the season. I see a promising coach on the scenes that has made us competitive with incredible additions to the roster through the transfer portal and some quality freshman. I also see a team that is still a work in progress, and not polished by any stretch.

BUT, I also saw a team come from 13 down against Miss State and outscored them 31-3!

I saw a team take care of business against teams they should have done so...SU and NM.

AND, I saw a team that was down 17 points, on the road in the SEC against a packed, home crowd...and just found a way to win. So, if you think being so far behind and finding a way to win, TWICE in the SEC, doesn't build character and build for the future, you're kidding yourselves!

So, all of you who wanted Coach Kelly to "flip a switch" and be in the top 5 this year clearly are not happy, and possibly, could be viewed as "delusional". It is a work in progress, still not pretty at times, and there may be several other losses this year given the schedule. But give this team credit...down by over two scores in the first 5 games of the season to SEC west foes and they pull it out.

So, again, I am being "agnostic" of LSU passion and emotion here when I say looking at the results in W-L, this is pretty damn good start! And we were one point after way from 5 and 0!

Well, that's my take, and I am sure not too popular an opinion on the board right now.

I believe we'd be 2-3 with the previous staff. It was never going to be a championship contending season with this roster but things are trending in the right direction.

You should, it was quick, reasonable read.

The issue for me is the lack of improvement.

The team didn't look any different last night than they did in the Florida State game. Penalties galore, dropped passes, poor execution, and busted overages.

Break down the words. It'll get easier with practice.

Why do people post this and think it's smart/funny? That literally took like 5 seconds to read. Are you bragging about a few sentences being too much for you to read?

Why not just go about your day and not post at all if you didn't read, instead of putting it on full display how dumb you are for the world to see?

How come wanting the team to play well makes some of you think we expect the team to be in the top 5 or look like the 2019 team?

How about not getting so many penalties or having so many drops or defensive breakdowns or missed tackles? How about we get a good offensive game plan that gets our QB in rhythm instead of coming out on the first series and throwing the ball downfield 3 times in a row? Why not get call some short passes or screens to your 1st round talent at WR?

This isn't an all or nothing thing here. The coach has a 10 year/$100M contact. He's going to be here a while. The overall record isn't really the most important thing this year whether it's good or bad. We need to see a well prepared, well coached team if we are to believe that this is the answer to competing for championships again. So far that hasn't exactly been the case. It doesn't mean that it can't improve. But, there's plenty of reasons to be concerned and disappointed while also being happy about being 4-1.

I'm not sure you know what agnostic means, but either way, a more unbiased or realistic opinion would be we are a team in a rebuilding process. 4-1 is a very good start, but there are likely some bad games ahead because we have glaring weaknesses at the QB position and no consistency on offense in general. Those issues come from multiple areas:
-A QB that struggles in pre-snap reads, progressions and accuracy
-An OC that can't tailor the offense to hide these deficiencies and improve his confidence
-An OL that is improving, but is still a work in progress

It was unrealistic to expect this team to be a juggernaut this season. The schedule only gets tougher and if the ball bounces the right way we could exceed expectations, but it could also get very rough, very quickly. Either way, critical analysis of the team's play and coaches' performance is to be expected.

You make some solid points OP. But what I find troubling is that the game is hard enough with a new coach, staff and guys playing together for the first time. But it is almost impossible to win when the basics of the game are not present. Penanties bad (we commit far, far too many), qb play where we have great receivers but can't seem to find them, defense great but we can't cover at times with blown coverages or allow their running game to gut us, and no sense of offensive rhythm. It's water torture watching the downs click down with minimal gains until we're at 3rd and long with a blitz we can't (or don't) pick up. A foundation of solid consistent play must be laid or we'll always be in jeopardy of beating ourselves.

That's not even remotely true. In the 3 games vs teams with a pulse we've gotten down big early in all 3. Then we had many of the same issues vs FSU as we did last night.

Actually, I am quite aware of what "agnostic" means...in my post, I used the term "agnostic" in a way that would allow me to provide a view point that distances myself from acknowledging my ties and emotion to all things LSU and viewed from the "purple and gold" perspective.

So, I feel that is a very appropriate use of the term. But, thank you for suggested options!

Agnostic:
1. Doubtful or uncertain about the existence or demonstrability of God or other deity.
2. Having no firmly held opinions on an issue or matter of uncertainty.

So either you're talking about God which I doubt or your OP should be blank since agnostic means having "no opinion."

Just giving you a hard time because I thought it was funny you chose the term.

Agree with you, but concerned with penalties and special teams. We have to clean that up, and the time is now. This team has no margin for error.
