My main takeaways from the Clemson game

-LSU’s defense is legit, definitely thinking/hoping this can be a Top10 defense
-we finally have a running game again!
-related to running-game… Sam Leavitt’s legs are gonna be the difference in a lot of games. It’s so nice to have a QB that can turn a broken or covered play into positive yards or to avoid a sack
-our passing game is still TBD on how good/great it can be. There wasn’t really anything to criticize from our performance, but if you put a gun to my head and forced me to choose something our overall passing game would probably be it
-still no idea what we’ve got on special teams because we didn’t really get to see it except for kickoff coverages and punt returns
-Pick6 was my favorite play of this game
-no significant injuries from Week1 as far as I know

There are a lot fewer injuries when you’re the hammer, not the nail. I do fear for both Leavitt and Jones making it the full season. They both took some hits.

If there is anyone who can scheme guys open it’s Lane Kiffin. We had dudes running wide opening & Clemson’s DBs were there strong unit

4 dropped passes is concerning. Don’t really see a sure handed go to wr who can make the catch in tight coverage. Just from practice and high school highlights maybe Wright III is the best of the bunch for hands, but remains to be seen.

My concerns but not huge because I know all are correctable.
1. There were times when Sam’s lack of height didn’t help him. The throwing lanes need to be maintained for a shorter QB and on Saturday they seemed to closed off which resulted in a tipped passes. As you all know, when a ball is tipped at the LOS, they can end up in picks and causes possession issues.
2. The timing routes such as back shoulder throws are not there yet probably due to a lack of chemistry. Because of this, he threw a few balls that looked like they would be picked if the DBs were any better. They will play better DBs.
3. While they have a lot of playmakers at receiver, I noticed a lack of separation. Change and Jefferson were excellent at the LOS to get that first step where they elite route running could take over to give them separation.
4. Maybe there are some on the roster, it looks like there aren’t a lot of receivers outside of Green where you feel good about them going up and snatching a ball above a defender. Maybe they are all a little shorter???
5. I expected more passes above defenders to all Green to use his height and athletic ability to go get it above defenders.
6. Not a true “concern”, just noticed this. There were a few breakdowns in coverages by the defense that will be exploited by a better QB.

Good take. Tons of positives. The level of preparation and solid communication was nice to see for a change. One small area for improvement seemed to be QB a little inaccurate on throws early on. Maybe just needed to settle in. Another would be drops or not competing to get the ball by receivers. Again. Still early and was very impressed
