You mean.......there's no shot ever at another golden era of LSU football?

It's so hard to accept this. We're really..........doomed? Will ULL-Southern outdraw LSU-Vandy?

Katy Tiger,

Even though I believe that your statement is completely wrong, lets say that you are right and we lose a lot this year and a lot next year. We then fire Miles and hire a coach who rejuvenates the program and he goes on to win with Miles' outstanding recruiting classes. So would begin your Golden Era II.

..If this is the case, I say let's pick up the memphis coach...He had his team ready to go and not f-ing around with ole miss.

End of an Era.

Smack dab in the middle of your "Glory years" was the year 2002. Where it took the most miraculous pass in LSU history just for us to finish 2-4.

That was in between two SEC championship years mind you.

I miss the days of Dinardo and lowered expectations. I could get a 50 yard line ticket to watch LSU play the #1 team in the nation for face value cause all the fricktards were busy cheering for Florida State or Miami.

I think the real reason so many LSU fans are upset is that the reality of the end of an era has set in. It really started last year, but now we are all painfully aware of it, and it hurts to realize that our Tigers are no longer the elite team that they were from 2003 - 2007. This period will later be known as the Golden Era of Tiger Football. For just a minute, think about how great that period was:

2003 - 2007

Overall record, including bowls - 56-10
2 National Championships
2 SEC Titles
3 SEC West Titles
4-1 Bowl record
Tons of great athletes and memorable games

2008 - miserable year - 3-5 in the SEC 8-5 overall - half as many losses as the previous 5 years combined

There were high hopes that the hiring of Tonto Chavis, Haley, and Cooper would turn around the slide of the program that started last year, but I just don't see that happening. Saturday night was a rude reminder that LSU is no longer an elite program. Yes, there are still some great skill players, but clearly LSU is no longer a dominant team in the trenches and defensive game planning and calling is a serious issue. It is becoming evident that Miles and his staff can no longer maintain the program at the elite level that it was when they inherited it. You might as well face the facts that at best LSU is a middle of the pack SEC team. Bama is now elite and on the way up to the top and we are on the way down. It was great while it lasted, but is painful watching the slide back downhill.

That pretty much sums it up. It may not be true, we'll all find out within the next few weeks, but this is definitely what people are fearing. College football tends to be cyclical. It's only natural to assume that this could be the beginning of the slide for LSU.

Attention....this is one of the most profound statements made on the Rant, in it's entire history.

Rantards and so called fans who call for 'jumping ship' after ONE game.....please, pay attention!

I certainly hope that I am wrong and am reading too much into last year and Saturday night. We'll see how everyone feels after UGA, Florida, Bama, and Ole Miss.

Nice selective memory.

We were damn close to losing an additional two games in 2004.

2002 was not pretty either.

Yep. We needed overtime and bad kicks to beat Oregon St in 2004 AT home when we were an elite team.

Yet, we can go on the road to Seattle and win without an overtime and one bad kick.

Game over man...game over. :P
