LSU will still be 3 or 4 in the SEC West. Yeah.

STOP SAYING THIS

The defense was top 10 in the country that year. Offense lost at Ole Miss. Period.

D had one bad game and we still almost won on the road against a senior Aaron Murray and Todd Gurley.

LSU didn't go 8-4 because of the offense. The defense was terrible that year.

Defense cost LSU the Georgia game and the Alabama game.

No.

JC Copeland fumbling on the goal line in our opening drive and then our OL getting abused causing Mett to get creamed (and hurt) all game cost us the Alabama game.

ETA:

Our defense held McCarron to 179 yards on 14 completions. They rushed for 193 on 4.6 a pop. Hardly a devastating stat line on the road against #1 when you lost TOP due to the offense's ineptness.

Not counting the 6 sacks for -29 yards allowed on Mett, we still only rushed for 25 times for 72 yards at 2.88 YPC.

Take away Odell's 82 yard kick return and our offense gets absolutely embarrassed.

Would you say Beckham is Head and Shoulders above the competition?

You're correct about Copeland's fumble ( wrap up that ball JC ).

We'll never know how that changed the game. Had we scored, the pressure is on Bama to respond. To that point we had the momentum and the pressure was on Bama. We would not have been put in the position of Mett NEEDING to throw, which allowed the Bama pass rush T off.

and the best Les could do with these two, Mett and Hill was 8-4. Any wonder why so many players leave so early? Les can't make a winning game plan.

Leaving the minor leagues ASAP and getting to the professional game is the smart move.

And LSU still couldn't do squat against Bama even with them two

you're pathetic

But I'm also right. It took all that talent just to make a Cam/Les offense work, but even then it didn't work enough to win the west. That's what is truly pathetic.

Mett has the 2nd highest passing yards vs Bama in LSU history. Flynn has the most, both under Les Miles.

The offense worked fine. We picked a bad time to have a bad defense.

Bad is relative...compared to how good they usually were under Chavis they were bad. I bet it ranked higher nationally than the offense usually does

ETA: Just looked it up

Offense

23rd in scoring
35th in total offense

Defense

21st in scoring defense
15the in total defense

So the defense was actually better than the offense nationally in 2013...yet our fans rave about how great the offense was and how bad the defense was...Boy have we been spoiled with great defense and accustomed to shitty offense at LSU.

Offense = #35 nationally
Defense = #15 nationally

But shhh, don't tell anybody. And I'm sure someone will be by to tell me yards per game don't mean anything. But, defense still ranked higher in ppg.

ETA: You did your own work, nice!!!

Some will do whatever it takes to defend the Head Coach. No matter the facts. I've even seen them say we threw as much on 2nd down as 3rd down that year cause Mett had the same number of attempts on each down.

Damn I hadn't realized that either!! It's the Georgia game that really sticks out for the 2013 defense. It wasn't a super strong defense but I guess it wasn't as bad as what we remember.

And for all that talent, those offensive rankings aren't that impressive. Now I'll wait for someone to come along and tell us something about points per play or some bullshite that no one ever uses except when defending LSUs offense.

I have seen plenty of this. And it seems its to posters who say we did not utilize our talent to the extent we should have....having watched them tear up the NFL for 2 years IDK how anyone can argue that we utilized them properly. What would they have done in a good offensive scheme...have to think they would have been Heisman hopefuls and at the least All Americans.

That year, Mett and the WRs were so good at converting 3rd and long. And they had a bunch of them. That year, 45+% of the 3rd downs were 3rd and 7 or longer. And we still almost converted 60% and led the nation. Pretty impressive.
