The defense did play below expectations at times, There's no doubt about it.

It doesn't mean he's not very good, just means he's had better years

29th isn't great with the talent we had, I think losing our edge rusher screwed his scheme up a bit. I certainly think he's worth what he's being paid but yeah, I also expect better than 29th. If it slips this year we will have a problem

Substitute the word "team" in for defense and you've got my critique of Orgeron, nearly word for word.

That sure is weird considering the way you throw a fit every time I post about it.

why do y’all lower the bar for our defense?

Are you being serious? How low is the damn bar for the offense then? You can't have it both ways.

Being ranked outside the top 20 defensively is ok with you? That’s what you expect from an LSU defense? Oh that’s right the A&M is the offenses fault bc they couldn’t get a 1st down...the reason you pay DA top money is so you can rely on his defense in situations like that.

But but but the offense just had shitty players so it’s excusable. At least that’s what I read here.

That's virtually impossible since that's basically all you do.

You're living in the past. He's gone, get over it

Finished ranked sixth so..

12th in efficiency is all I really care about. The defense was bad by LSU standards in 2017. It was very good by any standards in 2018.

there isn’t one LSU fan that doesn’t want the offense to improve. That isn’t even debatable but apparently there are tiger fans that have lowered the expectations for our defense.

I expect both to pull their weight. The defense did that 95% of the time. The offense did it maybe 3 times.

As bad as our offense was this year they rarely turned the ball over giving opponents short fields and our special teams also forced most teams to go 70 yards or more. I would love to see a stat for avg starting field position for our opponents and where that ranks nationally

We all want both to be #1 but that’s unrealistic. The defense was within acceptable range this year. The offense was not and has not been for years.

If the defense continues at this level or gets worse, then we can talk.

Based on previous results, Aranda's earned the right to be cut a little slack for a subpar year (to his standards). Ensminger? No comment.

Nope. OT is not the same due to the offense starting at the 25 yard line. Blaming that on the defense is stupid. I could just as easily blame the offense for not scoring touchdowns every possession in OT.

The fact is we have tons of talent on defense compared to offense. Yeh it hurt Chaison was lost for the season but I expect the highest paid DC to overcome that. The problems I have with our defense is we don’t blitz a lot. I see teams with far less talent pressuring the qb more than we do and that’s s heme (see it works both ways)The Florida game we allowed their qb to have a great game and he sucked all season til he faced us.

It’s funny though the same posters who defend DA and attempt to discount our talent defensively will say look at all those great offenses with far less talent than LSU...yet defensively we have the best dc in the country and top 5 talent but are satisfied with our defense ranking outside the top 20.

I just don’t understand why DA is above criticism...usually the more you make puts you under more scrutiny...but some fans refuse to be consistent with criticism

Take this and flip it for LSU. How often did LSU's defense give the offense great starting field position? The answer is quite a lot. And even with that LSU still couldn't pile on the points. Might have something to do with the Redzone offense that ranked in the 100's.

Hence the reason LSU's scoring and total defense numbers are a bit low, but the efficiency rating is in the top 12. Advanced metrics are a beautiful thing.

The criticism should be consistent. If Aranda's D is ever a statistical bottow dweller like the offense, then he'd be fair game. But luckily, that'll never happen.
