I just don't see how any game with State can be considered a top ten game for the Tigers.

7) LSU vs. Auburn 2006

I don't see how you can put this game on the list. There were at least two, maybe several more, other games that same year that were better than this. The Auburn game of 2006 was crap even if only due to the fact that the refs were such a huge factor. The LSU defense did pretty well, but the Auburn defense just sat around and waited to get a horrible call in their favor that would stop us. No way was this a top 10 of the decade game. Arkansas and Tennessee games that season were much better.

Some other games that probably should have been on the list:

LSU vs. Tennessee 2000 (how did this one not make it?)
LSU vs. Arizona State 2005
LSU vs. Georgia 2003 SEC Championship
LSU vs. Notre Dame 2006(7) Sugar Bowl

They were good back then. They had beaten us in 1999 on the way to a 10-2 finish, and were a strong contender for the SEC West in 2000 until we beat them.

That was my freshman year. Jackie Sherrill had some solid State teams. I remember that game being a really big deal. I somehow forgot about the UT game in OT.

Agree with The Cable Guy... jackie s was an excellent coach, had a great team and we had lost to aburn and UAB earlier that yr. what a great game! i can remember it like it was last sat night; forth down and 2 in OT ( LSU up 7) "..and they stop Madkin for no gain! -LSU wins" and fans rush the field!
was a great start for a great decade for LSU football!

The loss to USC 1979 has to be in that group. I know last ten years but I could not help myself

I understand it was 2000 and LSU fans were looking for anything positive.

I remember Sherrill, the bull and the testicles.

I also remember when I was in school Sherrill not being able to beat LSU when he was at A&M (0-3).

Sherrill was (is) a cheat.

State is, well, State.

It was exciting to win that game, but in perspective of the best games of the 2000's...

...it's freakin' State.

Rushing the field after a State game?

...it is still state? um....
LSU record in the 90,s
1990 4-6
1991 5-6
1992 2-9
1993 5-6
1994 4-7
1995 6-4-1
1996 9-2
1997 8-3
1998 4-7
1999 3-8

beating miss state at that point was significant turning pt for a new decade of lsu football.
yes state has sucked, but they did not that year, we had suck the previous two yrs, and we won a hard fought game against a good opponent. why do you act as if at that pt in lsu football that we were such a powerhouse as compared to State? we were far from it at that time. and we still hadnt gained full confidence in lsu football as a consistantly winning program at that point(ie the 90's)...that game, along with the tennessee game, can be summed up as the turning pt for a football program that had no (recent) winning tradition into an elite program.
thanks to saban, 2000 was were our streak began

Those were 2 amazing games. I was at both of them. I was only 15 at the time, so it was pretty amazing to me.

1997 8-3 (beat State 24-9)
1998 4-7 (beat State 41-6)
1999 3-8

And yet State went 3-7 vs LSU in LSU's worst decade EVER.

Let's get something straight here: LSU will ALWAYS be a powerhouse as compared to State - ALWAYS.

No matter what.

the tennessee game, can be summed up as the turning pt

This. Even in the depths of its misery, LSU was expected to beat State, but not UT. That's why the UT game signaled a new beginning for the Tigers for me.

quote:

State won the most games in the West from 97-00.

And yet were 1-3 vs LSU, who went 24-22 in that time.
