How do they all of a sudden get these elite players with the academic requirements they have? Did they drop those? All the money in the world can't fix GPA.

You can't cherry pick your statements...you compare ND in 2020 to LSU in 2022...the statement could easily be made that "Freeman took over a program that went to a semifinal playoff game in 2020" (as you stated) and that Kelly took over a program that won a National Title in January of 2020. It's all in how you spin it...no matter how you spin in, Freeman has reached the highest pinnacle that Kelly did during his entire 13 years at ND in year 3.
I'm sure you'll say that Kelly built ND from the ground and that's different from what Freeman inherited. Tell me this then, after Kelly got to the NC game in 2013 the program obviously was not in ruin any longer...why did it take him another 5 seasons to get back to a relevant position?
By that math Kelly took a 12-1 team that played for a title in 2012 (a blowout loss) and subsequently went
9-4 in 2013
7-5 in 2014
10-3 in 2015
4-8 in 2016
10-3 in 2017
before making a semifinal appearance again in 2018 (another blowout loss).
Freeman took a team that finished 11-2 in 2021 and subsequently went
9-4 in 2022
10-3 in 2023
14-1 in 2024 and in the CFP finals!
Looking at it through this lens Freeman started in a worse place than Kelly did in 2013 and has already finished better.
Freeman > Kelly
