Monday: Poche. You give the ball to the senior bulldog starting a best of 3 series. He's the career wins leader who has two victories in Omaha at this time. He won't pitch after this start for at least one week when he's assigned to minor league. He's earned it this start.

Tuesday: Lange. You don't risk being swept and your first round draft pick not toeing the rubber. After this game, he won't pitch again for at least another week. He has to sign with the Cubs, get assigned, move out of his digs in BR, enjoy the CWS victory parade, etc. You absolutely do not save Lange for a game 3 that may not occur. He's earned this start.

Wednesday: Currently 60% chance of rain. Maybe this game is delayed a day. Who knows. If we are playing a Game 3, we start Gilbert. This young man had the greatest feeling of his life leaving the right inning today with a 6-1 lead after surrendering four hits and no one expected him to get out of the fifth.

Losing Walker hurt and hurt bad. We need to win the first two and bring the trophy home to where it belongs.

You are saying all of this and ignoring the fact that they all just pitched. Thats going to factor in when they can throw.

I think people expecting Lange to pitch on Tuesday and Gilbert to "start" on Wednesday are ridiculous. Gilbert could give you maybe an inning or two on Wednesday. Lange threw 115 pitches yesterday!!! It would be detrimental to throw him on three days rest. I think wholestaff Monday, poche Tuesday, Lange Wednesday

Poche threw Wednesday. He gets three off days.

Lange threw Friday. If he pitches Tuesday, he gets three off days.

They both have enough in their tank to get the rock one more time. The competitor in them will not allow this series to pass them without them getting a start.

I think Monday will be a "Johnny Whilestaff" day; maybe start Peterson, insert Beck for long relief, give Bush and Newman an inning or two and use Hess to slam the door shut.

Don't overthink anything here.
1: Poche
2: Lange
3: Gilbert

Hess is closer.

Like its already been discussed. Poche throwing Monday would be on 4, almost 5 days rest. Thats doable for a pitcher like Poche.

Asking Lange to throw on 3 days rest may not be an option. If its not, then throwing Poche Monday doesn't make much sense. Just as well give him that extra days rest.

I am almost certain that none of them would turn down the chance to pitch, no matter when it was. Nobody is questioning their competitivenes. You have to first ask if its in the best interest for that kid, as a coach. Which in Lange's case, the answer is no for starting Tuesday. Then you ask how effecting can he even be on that short of rest. He may not be of much help to the team until at least Wednesday.

You don't get to the last series of the season and leave your horses in the stable. These guys have mentally prepared for this series since being beat in their super regional last season. They came back for this. This is what a pitcher's dream looks like. They've played the last 18 or so years of their lives preparing for this series.

Poche
Lange
Gilbert

What about what the pitchers arm will look like after throwing 230 pitches in 3 days? What about college being a stop before the ultimate goal (the MLB) for players at LSU? Think none of that matters to the players and coaches?

Poche pitched on Wed. He gets the ball on Monday after 5 days rest.

Lange likely pitches Tuesday on 4 days rest.

Gilbert on Wednesday also with 4 days rest.

Unless by some miraculous fate, Walker can come back and pitch. I highly doubt that, though.

A starting pitcher throws abnormal bullpen session two days after a start. A typical bullpen session is 50-75 pitches and is part of their normal weekly conditioning cycle. They've been doing this for four months now. Poche threw his session earlier today and said his arm was fine to throw in relief today if needed. He was put on the available roster and would have been used if he was needed.

You start the horses and hope they get you 6 quality innings on short rest while the hitting does their job. It is a team effort here. You absolutely do not deplete the bullpen the first game of this series. Newman has to fill a middle reliever told this week.

But it's not 4 days rest for Lange on Tuesday or Gilbert on Wednesday. It's 3. Pro pitchers who pitch freaking 45 game seasons rarely do this and when they do, the results aren't good. Something like 30-45 over the last 10 odd years pitching on 3 days rest

If you don't know the difference between a 50-75 pitch bullpen session, and pitching in any game let alone a championship game, I don't see how I can talk rationally to you.

I really don't see why Poche can't pitch on Monday he will be on 4 1/2 days rest.
