Since Nick Fitzgerald's strength is running, lets take a look at the rushing stats for QBs vs a Dave Aranda defense from the past few years. (I'm aware QB's like Cardale Jones and Chad Kelly were better passers than runners, but both were able to run)

2014 LSU vs Wisconsin:
Anthony Jennings: 9 carries, -2 yards

2014 Nebraska vs Wisconsin:
Tommy Armstrong: 20 carries, 17 yards

2014 Ohio State vs Wisconsin:
Cardale Jones: 8 carries, 9 yards

2014 Auburn vs Wisconsin:
Nick Marshall: 7 carries, 18 yards

2015 Maryland vs Wisconsin:
Perry Hillis 11 carries, -14 yards

2016 Mississippi State vs LSU:
Nick Fitzgerald: 13 carries, 13 yards

2016 Ole Miss vs LSU:
Chad Kelly: 12 carries, 56 yards

2016 Alabama vs LSU:
Jalen Hurts: 20 carries, 114 yards, 1 TD
(72 yards came on 3 carries, 42 yards on the other 17 carries)

2016 Texas A&M vs LSU:
Trevor Knight: 6 carries, 11 yards

2017 Louisville vs LSU:
Lamar Jackson: 26 carries, 33 yards

TOTAL:
132 carries
255 yards
1.93 yards per carry
1 TD

Good luck Nick

I wouldn't be surprised if Dave Aranda was planning for Nick Fitzgerald all last week, it seems like he always plans perfectly and comes out extremely strong in big games, especially SEC games. I'm expecting a surprisingly dominant performance by our D next week

Nice research, those are pretty compelling numbers.

Not overly complicated.

Discipline defense. Spy QB with a good athlete who can tackle. See defense vs John Football.

Or, take a copy of the 2011 LSU-Bama championship game, combo man/zone coverage with a mush rush concept and force the mobile QB to be a passer. Frustrate him into mistakes. Force him to make reads and check-down.

Coaches don't execute, players do. We have the players who are discipline. Match-up should be in our favor. Plus, even those fools in Stark-vegas don't ring these illegal cowbells when their offense is on the field. Makes it easier for our defense to check-down.

How much of those yards were gifted from the uncalled holdings?

this is what i'm thinking. keep everything in front of you. 1 player isn't going to beat the entire defense. manziel is a perfect example. chavis handled him exactly right.

good info. very telling

Not sure why you felt the need to asterisk this stat line, though.

If the refs let Moo State hold like they do Alabama, could be a long night. But they won't.

And about 3 holds per play.

Just to show that he was contained for the majority of the night. He averaged ~2.2ypc outside of those three plays, but looking at the overall stat line it would seem he averaged a solid 6.0ypc all night.

Obviously all the runs count the same, but giving up 5-7 yards each carry means you just flat out couldn't stop him. That wasn't the case.

This is what I've been saying all week. We shut down Jackson, and he's is 10x the runner Fitz is.
