You think high school pitching equals SEC or college pitching?

Of course there is. Which of those aspects do you think he is outperforming milazzo at? Framing? Receiving? Blocking? Throwing out runners? I dont see it

Maybe it is just me, but Milazzo doesn't look as good as last year. His defense is still really good, but doesn't look quite as sharp. Offensively, maybe the same but hasn't improved.

I expect Tranvinski will improve as the year goes on, offensively and defensively but he still scares me. I could see a situation where they split time, based of the game situation and the pitcher. I like Milazzo back there with the freshmen pitchers on Sunday. I like Milazzo back there when we have a four run lead. I don't really trust that Mainieri will use them correctly, but that is a different topic.

I can agree to all that. PM alluded to both he and travinski having injuries earlier this year. Wonder if it affected milazzos arm. His snap throws havent been there

Not just you! You are correct sir and this is why he is splitting time with another catcher.

Yall are acting like milazzo has looked like yadi molina behind the plate this year. I mean he has been average while travinski has been below average. However travinski with SOME semblance of an offensive threat does way more for the team than milazzo ALMOST throwing out a couple runners

I'm sure he's going to say something about his demeanor, and I would agree that it's the one thing that Travinski brings behind the plate that Milazzo doesn't. Milazzo seems to constantly be thinking back there. Travinski fights through every pitch with the guy on the mound - he lives and dies with them. Wyeth is like that, too.

I'm in the middle on who should be playing. Travinski has the theoretical offensive edge but he's struggled in SEC play aside from the 1 game against Kentucky. He and Milazzo actually have the same number of hits in the conference. Milazzo has the defensive edge but he has had his moments this season, too. Travinski makes me really nervous back there but we only gave up 1 run against a top 10 team last night (yes, I know most teams will run a bit more than SC, etc).

Good luck figuring this one out, Paul. I'd ride Travinski right now.

How many times are we gonna see travanski go 1-4 every game and allow base runners advance extra bases to get them out of a DP ball with a passed ball on strike 3 ?

Baseball fans are prejudiced toward offense. Until Travinski costs us a game, fans will prefer that occasional base hit over the drip, drip, drip of stolen bases and passed balls. I believe that Travinski costs us too much on defense to compensate for his offense. But I think it’s a close call.

That’s what I don’t get. Dude is living on reputation right now. And because he can’t hit it’s even more elevated. Like he is a specialist or something. That just hasn’t been the case.

No travinski is not as good but I’m not sure Millazos defensive upside outweighs Travinskis offensive upside.

Worst catcher I have seen as a starter for LSU had to be Hunter Feduccia (2018). Lifetime 233 hitter I referred to him as Mr. Passball.

Also went to camp with the world champion LA Dodgers this season. So there's that.

I'd love for him to go 1-4 every game. The problem is he goes 0-4 most games. He's 2/24 with no XBH and 14 Ks in SEC play. Couple that with him being pretty awful defensively, it's probably time to put Milazzo back in because at least we know we're getting solid defense out of him.

I believe travinski can develop as a receiver with higher upside than milazzo developing as a competitive guy in our lineup

You are right about that, and I've said before that Travinski is much better at framing the pitches than Milazzo is. Still, take away hitting, and Milazzo is a MUCH better catcher. The problem for Travinski is he's hitting worse than Milazzo against SEC pitchers.

Travinski is the worst defensive catcher I've ever seen play at LSU. Worse than Gibbs in 2010.

No. What about that guy a couple of years ago who had the yips throwing back to the pitcher. I used to enjoy watching him catch, and then...and then...and then throw the ball back to the pitcher.

Yeah! He was the guy with the yips, too, right?
