Miles: Won NC in 2007 and played for the 2011 championship. Most wanted him gone after the 2015 season, but he was run out after 4 games into 2016.

Mainieri: Won NC in 2009 and Played for the 2017 championship. If he hadn't made it to NC series last year most would have called for his head.

Question is 8 years after Miles won a NC most were ready to move on from him. Has the fan base reached that point with Mainieri 8 years after his last championship.

Just to be clear I'm asking a question, not advocating either way.

PM is not going anywhere
He will retire a Tiger
I don't know how long he wants to coach but I would say 5 more years would be reasonable with the money he's making now
Next year will be a better squad and I'm pretty sure he wants one more national title before he closes the book
He will coach Team USA this summer

No and “most” would not have called for his head if he didn’t make the NC last year. That team had holes and struggled bad at times and achieved more than expected. Why would he be required to make it to the championship with a team that most didn’t think would make it there? Also, why do some people keep trying to compare baseball and football?

I don't know that he lasts another 5 years. I've heard he was starting to get a little burned out.

Since Mainieri's 2009 championship season, LSU has finished in the top 10 in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Since Miles' 2007 national championship season, LSU finished in the top 10 in 2010 and 2011.

Nah, you don't fire coaches that consistently make it to the college world series despite how they have performed there.

Its not even a good comparison. Miles’ program got stale after 11 and we were out of contention before we played bama pretty much every year after. Mainieri has us in contention pretty much every year but this one since 11

Miles wouldn't have gotten fired if he was making BCS bowls every other year for the past 6 years and Manineri is doing the equivalent of that.

Mainieri has proven himself a national championship coach, whereas one can make a very good argument that Miles was not.

Mainieri won in 2009, although with the "someone else's players" defense/argument, but consistently had the Tigers in the hunt most years after. He brought the Tigers to Omaha multiple times and played for the championship again last year. He makes some boneheaded calls sometimes but every coach does. Hindsight is 20/20.

Miles won in 2007 with two losses after a tremendous amount (almost miraculous) of help from other teams losing on conference championship weekend. He did this with the "someone else's players" thing, too. Whether or not you agree that is a thing. But then in the years after he only had 1 or 2 "great" seasons, and he completely blew the championship in one of those by being incomprehensibly stubborn with the QB position. Miles lost many games that he shouldn't have and barely won games he should have won by large margins.

All in all, Mainieri has been much more consistent than Miles was. And he has a bit more success in that consistency as well.

Mainieri better not be fired whereas Miles needed to be let go a year before he was.

There isn't even much of an argument for that. Laval was fired before any of the junior contributors on the 2009 team even made it to campus. The only players on that team that played for Laval were Buzzy Haydel, Nick Pontiff, Louis Coleman, and Nolan Cain.

Other than that, I agree with the rest of your post.

He had LSU in the championship series last year. One down year doesn't define a coach especially with all the bad breaks this year.

I think it is a fair question. I believe you can compare coaches in different sports. I doubt many would say Les and Paul are better coaches than Saban, Meyer, Coach K,Calipari, Sullivan, and Corbin. . Anyway, I don't want any LSU coaches fired while Alleva is the AD.
