Miles is 3-3 against Meyer.
So he is exactly .500 against these elite coaches at elite programs on par with LSU, which hardly helps the argument that these coaches run laps around Miles.
I'm not necessarily saying Miles is a better coach than these three ... My point is more lets not go overboard on the criticism of Miles. Miles is good, arguably very good, and he's proven that over time.
Can Miles be great? That's the question that I think many, including myself, legitimately wonder.

So, yes his record is below .500. Also, two of those wins came against Meyer and Saban i their first years, when they had inherited teams on the decline and Mikes was playing with Saban's players.
This is stupid. Fair enough on the first win against Saban, but when we beat Meyer in 2005 they were ranked #11.
Also it could easily be said that 2 of Meyer's and Saban's wins came against LSU during rebuilding years (08;09).

So basically, for every program out there, it is arbitrary national champs or fire the coach.
This attitude, more than anything is making college football less and less fun. I love seeing programs that have fans that cheer for their team...be them 10-2, 8-4, or winning the SEC.
Spare me the xcellence bullshite. I would imagine 1% of the people that say shite like that pursue excellence in their own life. If they did, they would view college football as entertainment, not a be all end all.
Miles needs to continue to improve. No one overcomes the youth and inexperience factor...just look at Jim Mora getting the shite kicked out of his team lat night, I think we will stay competitive, and I think we will be better next year.
We simply don't have the horses to run with the best. It is what it is, that is why the recruiting class is so important, we have a chance to stock the shelves with elite talent again, like we did with the team that won the SEC with Miles as the coach.

To all of you people who think that the 80's sucked, LSU did win 2 SEC Titles. To all you people whom think LSU is accomplishing more now than ever since Miles has bee here for nine years, 2 SEC Titles. Get the picture? Cupcake wins pad stats and after this team shows up again unprepared against BAMA and A&M, Miles will be down to around a 73% winning percentage.
Second, I would consider the guy coaching at OLE MISS right now as a good fix for LSU. Two years in a row he has out coached Miles with way lesser talent.

But he is no Saban, Meyer, Kelly or even Fisher.
Give Bama's talent to any of these coaches toa any of those coaches and I bet against Saban. Don't forget when Saban was at LSU fans had more negative view of him than Saban except for one year. If the best players in La go to play for other teams why do you expect to be the best? College football is 95% recruiting and you are making too much of coaching on the field. Saban would have never accepted a job at Kentucky because he knows he could not have talent advantage year after year.

2 BCSCG appearances? That happened in the 80ies?
National rankings almost yearly in the Top 8? That happened in the 80ies?
Yearly bowl games? That happened in the 80ies?
Leading the SEC in wins? That happened in the 80ies?
Get the picture?

13-0 two years ago. Mass exodus 1 year ago. He's really good while Richt, Brown, Stoops are good. Saban is great. Not sure you roll the dice with that. You would need to know LSU's full coaching history to understand this perspective.
IMO, when Miles leaves, LSU will attempt to get a coach for much less money coming in and that will present it's own set of problems.

WOW, you really don't know anything about recruiting. LSU has been in the top 7 the last five years in recruiting, BAMA the same. The only difference is one coach knows how to get the best out of his talent, one doesn't. We had some of the best defensive players LSU has had in years last year and lost 3 games. Seems like a coaching problem to me.
I am glad that LSU is the same caliber in your mind to UCLA, that is a dumb statement.
Miles played o-line in college, was an o-line coach in the NFL. If he's the greatest recruiter ever, how come we aren't putting more offensive line men in the NFL? For an offensive minded head coach, we seem to always put more defensive guys in the NFL.

Played in 40% of the SEC championship games and 25% of the BCS title games since Miles arrival.
Yeah, we're mediocre.

that's pretty much the crux of the matter. If you give Saban and MIles equal talent, Miles will generally win. Look at the game in Tuscalousa a couple years ago where LSU some how squeezed out a miraculous victory severly limited with Lee/Jefferson at QB.

FWIW, Urban Meyer is a better football coach than CLM. That's not really debatable.

Alabama has dominated the nation in recruiting. They have a depth we don't have as a result. And Saban is the best coach in the country.

Yes that is what was said. It is a comparison of a proven coach in Mora, taking a young team on the road to a stacked team with an unproven coach. I didn't know folks could get thei head up their arse with helmets on.

I could give a crap how many he played in, how many did he win? Also, how many bowl games have we won in the last 4 years????? 1 Don't see too many fans with Purple BCS championship shirts from 2011 stating the score. $4.5 million a year should not get you the crap we have seen the last few years.
Second place and last place are the same in football. No one gives a crap who made it to the Superbowl, its the team that won who gets the recognition.

When has Mora ever proven anything?? What has he ever won?? What has UCLA been ranked in recruiting the last few years?? So gulf coast recruits are no better than west coast recruits?? I am pretty sure the SEC has proven their caliber of recruits on defense are better than the caliber of recruits on the west coast when it comes to stopping OREGON.

So you think we should replace Les with Lane and you just had the nerve to tell extrememtiger to add something to the discussion or get out.

Yep, won 4 baseball championships in little league, 3 divisional championships in 4A high school football, 1 basketball championship when I was younger, 1 football championship in eight grade. Probably that guy that kicked your arse all over the field when you were younger.
You are the type that's happy to compete no matter what and everyone should get a trophy for trying. More important to have fun and be a part of the experience then to win right?????? Just as fulfilling to try???
