When considering between 2 job offers, there's a lot more to look at than just salary. You also have to consider the benefits that come alone with the company (ease of recruiting in LA vs AR). Is any coach worth $5.5M? Not even close. But some schools have to over-pay to get a coach to look past the negatives of that school. If Miles uses this "offer" as leverage, then LSU should call his bluff.
Anybody watch the episode of Louie where he tries out for the host of Late Night? They weren't looking for a replacement for Letterman, they were just looking for an option to use against him in the negotiation.

Les's contract will be renegotiated from $3.75M to $4.2M. Arkansas is not being considered.

Apples and Oranges. If you compare Miles' record at LSU v. Saban's record at LSU, Miles wins.
It's actually unfathomable to me that some fans still want to compare the raw records of Saban and Miles at LSU as if it proves something, without even attempting to take account of the differing state of the program when each coach began his respective tenure. I've said it a million times, I'll say it again, when Saban took over, we were coming off a 3-8 regular season, two consecutive losing seasons, were more than a decade removed from our last SEC title, and four decades remoced from our last NC. By contrast, when Miles took over, we were coming off a 9-2 regular season, had won two sec titles in the last four years, and were two years removed from an NC. Those two programs are not even close to being equivalent.
And even though the 2000 program was inferior to the 2005 program, Saban managed to win just as many SECC's and NC's in five years as Miles has won in eight!
The more I read this board, the more convinced I become that there is a segment of our fan base that is either (a) legitimately stupid; or (b) willfully biased. Since I don't want to be uncharitable and conclude it's (a), I figure that some fans are so devoted to Miles that they are now incapable of objectively guaging evidence.

Now compare the situation that each one walked into.
Gene Chizik and John L Smith would like to add that it's awfully difficult to maintain a program at such a high level for years.

So, Les' old Michigan pal the Arky AD lofts this rumor of a 35 mil offer to 1) let Ark fans know he's leaving no stone unturned and 2) to give his old friend Les the opportunity to renegotiate for a couple more million over a few years.
The "offer" was never a bonafide and never was nor will it ever be an "offer".
It is , however, useful.to bothj.
Incidentally, Ark would have to add about 15 million to pay Les' buy out, for a total of 50 million if it WAS real.

You're nuts....Les isn't worth the $4million he is making now. I would offer him a salary cut.
LSU football revenue is up ~$15 million just since 2007 - you don't want to pay him 1/3 of that increase?

No

If he is not satisfied with 3.75 million a year and being at LSU then he should just leave. As for any pay increases, that would be non negotiable until he wins the SEC or BCS again. He is WAY more than fairly compensated.

You can tie the $15 million incremental increase to Miles and his superior coaching?

coaches salaries have escalated since miles got his last raise. i do not believe miles will leave for arky period. even if lsu doens't pony up. BUT, the next time a legitimate offer comes up from someplace miles deems desirable, he's a gone pecan. it is time for LSU to show good faith or the situation could get untenable, now or in the future. many young bucks (or inexperienced ones) on here have no clue how this stuff works, in sports or the business world. when the supply of really good personnel is less than the demand the organization better take care of them. it's cheaper in the long run.

Time to show "good faith"?
with someone you entered into a contract with in "good faith"?
We are paying 4 million a year in "good faith".
Les, is that YOU posting?

$80 million to $95 million is not incremental.

And what was the overall state of the conference during the time each of those SECC's were won? It's at the very least arguable that Miles won his facing stiffer competition. Including beating Saban/Bama on the road for one of those championships.

plenty of schools will gladly pay Les Miles $5+ million to make them perennial title contenders.
Does that mean he gets to take the talent and future wealth of recruits from La. with him???
If not, I dont see how he automatically makes a team a title contender...
I LOVE Miles and dont want him going anywhere and think he has done a great job.
But still, LSU's resources made him, not the other way around.
If he is the coach at Tenn this year, he wins no more than 6 to 7 games max. His coaching aint bad by any means, but the talent is where he gets those 10 win seasons from. Not his coaching.
