Exactly. Alleva just settled on O for the hell of it, without pounding the pavement to find someone who could truly restart the football program.

I'd understand the decision if Alleva intended to hire a stop-gap coach for a year or two while they found someone excellent to take the job... but, if that was the case, O wouldn't have a $12M buyout.

one of two things really....

1. O was pretty much the guy from the outset.
2. Once options A and B were removed from the table and Alleva panicked. O had the backing of former players, current players, and enough of the common fans to where it was an easy win for Joe. So instead of doing his job, Joe went for the PR win.
