Actually I was. I was gving a reason why he got the bulk of the carries against kentucky. They mentioned it several times.
Yall are the ones freaking out about ford not playing enough.
Doc, since you know so much about whats best for the program, then why arent you coaching?

Yes, Keiland had one great game in 4 years
he had many in 2006. it's not like he just showed up against VT in 2007

the VT game was the outlier, not the rest of his career.
actually i point more to 2006 when his insertion transformed our offense against good teams
his sample, post-VT, was limited
quote:
You get obsessed with players and refuse to change your opinion regardless of the changing data.
when the coach essentially eliminates the sample, then all you can do is cling to what they've already done
this is happening with ford now, and happened with keiland
quote:
ook, I loved Craig Loston and thought he was gonna be a star. I was wrong. I've adjusted my expectations for the guy,
i do this also
see: russell sheppard being a shitty WR who should be moved to RB
the facts are that when he plays, ford has produced this year. just like keiland did in 2006 and 2007

So he got carries over another RB because his house burned down?
You've gone full retard.

Why do you think Shep will more successful at RB? He's pretty small. I like the idea of using him in space, which means throwing to him on screen plays like the TD play yesterday. He's just not a possession receiver who can win balls in traffic.
SFP, I'm sorry, you have nearly a decade of post history and I've leaned over that time you're not that great of talent evaluator. I don't trust your judgment based on your track record. You're not Peej levels of bad, but you're not nearly as good at it as you think you are.
And the fact that refuse to admit when you've whiffed makes me trust your judgment even less. It's actually WHY I don't trust your evaluation abilities.

Thats not as easy as you put it. We are already arguing about who gets snaps behind ware. Then there are a plethora of guys behind randle. And there are even more guys who havent really seen the field that much. We are also deep at TE.
Oh and we have 3 qbs, and portions of the fan base have their reasons for wanting one over the others.
I say we are def heading in the direction you are looking for, and expect so see more of that next year if we keep the current offensive staff.

he's a natural runner. and in a limited sample, has actually made big plays from the RB position
he almost can't be worse at RB than he is at WR
quote:
He's pretty small.
he's as big as harvin was in 2008 when he almost had 1,000 yard rushing and receiving

use him in that role, also
also as the jet man in a wildcat or just a play jet sweep. use his speed

i'm just going off of stats. there isn't much else you can use

that is a bigger myth than me actually not admitting mistakes

Ok then he got more carries because he is all around a better back.
Unless you really believe that les miles has a dog house.
And im the retarded one..

not really. WR is a weakness on this team, honestly. we have randle, OBJ, and...
quote:
We are also deep at TE
peterson and a bunch of blockers
our only glut position on offense is RB...which works b/c we are almost only a running team. we barely pass the ball

Ford = being protected for Nov 5. Think outside running game because running between tackles is hard against that team. Think speed to the outside vs power to the inside.
couldn't agree more....then think fake pitch to a backside screen. we will have to be very creative to negate an obvious bama strength.

See you say maximize every players ability, but i feel like ur just pointing out the ones you want to use.
Just cus one player starts over another doesnt mean that player is a scrub. Especially when ur talking about teams with the talent level of bama/lsu.

Keiland was a whiff. But you'll never admit it, and also never learn from it. It's always someone else's fault. Your pathological Boise hatred also falls in this category. It's not that you're always entirely wrong, it's that you fail to see why you were wrong about things and try and improve.
I look at stats, too. Ford had five carries yesterday after only one carry against Florida. Of course, he was hurt which would explain the limited action.
But Ford does have half as many carries as Ware and more than Blue. So he is being used more than Blue. He's gotten less carries in the wake of an injury, and now they are on the uptick. Also, FORD HAD MORE CARRIES THAN BLUE YESTERDAY. So I fail to understand your complaint.
Just to show why YPC is a sometimes misleading stat, Ware averages 2.0 YPC on 3rd and 3 or less. He's also converted a 1st down on 8 of ll carries, which is the only way to judge success in that situation (Ford is 1 of 2).
To repeat, I really like Ford as well. I think he's a valuable contributor, but I think his current role (getting about half as many carries as Ware) is about right. And he's also seeing his carries that went to Blue coming back as he's getting healthy. There is no conspiracy holding him back.

when keiland got to play in a starting role, outside of 2008, he pretty much always did well
he got moffit'd in 2008 and wasn't that good

i think you need to pay more attention to when i seriously discuss boise state
i think you have developed a tunnel vision and have already jumped to conclusions that you believe, without evidence

well that's why few people are really comparing the ypc of ford and ware. it works better if both get equal carries across random situations
that is understandable. but what is not understandable is this "doesn't finish runs/truck people" argument
with how much we run, we need to make it more varied. and we will have to rely on upon big plays in the running game against good defenses. the only 2 players likely to do this on our roster are ford and shep, with JJ (of all people) being the distant 3rd

I completely disagree. Keiland was schemed out of the gameplan. He wasn't a "featureback" ala Hester and Scott. When he did get chances he ran well on stretch plays, options, and swing passes.

Sigh. No, you're confusing me with you. And like I said, I don't think you're an awful talent evaluator, you're just nowhere near as good at it as you think. and your blindspot is the failure to self-evaluate. Well, that and you use statistics the way a drunk uses a lamppost, for support and not illumination.
I think you're tearing down Blue to promote Ford even though I actually agree with your general premise: Ford is a better player. I like Ford a lot, too. But I don't think he's a great player who is being horribly misused. He has about half the carries of Ware and more than Blue... that seems about right. You talk about how we're not properly using our assets, how is Ford being misused? And why are we just skipping over the fact he was injured in the Kentucky game (which also caused his numbers to plummet)?
Also, he does have the team's longest run from an RB, 28 yards. But Ware's longest is 23 and Blue's is 20. So it's not that big of a difference.

in 2006 he kind of was thrown into a starting role the last 1/3 or so of the season and averaged 5.7 for the year
this was the final stretch of UTenn, Bama, Arky, and our bowl game
it's not like VT was his first time as our starting RB

I agree that a lot of this is petty. Let me point out one thing... all that matters in college football is wins and losses. I completely understand that. A part of me feels for a guy like Ford that has a ton of talent and just doesn't get many chances (ETA: at least recently).

He's shined this year when he was given a chance. One dropped ball shouldn't bench him.
Hell, if that's case, bench all the receivers

Your right...it's something I just don't understand..Ware fumbled in Oregon game and nothing happen to Ware. I do love Ware...but I love Ford too and if anybody looks at his per carry average it is always high. He had 7yds per carry in the UT game with 5 carries.
But I think Jefferson made the difference in Ford and Blue's lack of carries. If Miles boy wasn't playing Ford would be getting those carries. Jefferson showed he can run. That's just my take. When MF was in high school us fans knew he was going to break one almost guaranteed if he got enough touches. He is cable of that now and why Les doesn't do, I don't know; but trust me it's coming and I'll take that to the bank!
