Mikaylah Williams- World Cup MVP

MK just nailed down the MVP of all of the great women's players across the world, including professionals, in the 3 x 3 FIBA World Cup in Warsaw. She led the USA team also featuring Lay, Joyce Edwards, and Sahara Williams to an undefeated Gold Medal, the first Gold for the U.S. since 2023. The US had the youngest team in the tourney as every other team had at least one professional or former professional from their country.
Just as she did in the semifinals in OT vs. Azerbaijan, MK bagged the game-winning shot in a tight 21-20 win over Australia in a game just completed. MK was the teams' leading scorer in almost every game, and in addition to the finals and semis, she drilled the clutch game-winning shot in several other games over the past month. They almost always looked to MK for the kill shot at the end.
Lay had a great championship game as well with 11 points, including several clutch 3-pointers. She had numerous steals and blocks throughout the World Cup, and they haven't stopped her drives to the basket yet.
I'd say the LSU women are in great hands with those two as clutch winners this coming season. With MK and Lay on the floor, I think we'll see LSU win the close games they lost last year in the final minutes. I think we have a great shot at the Final Four and maybe more.

Just watched the replay. Big steal by Fulwiley to get the ball back right before the Mikaylah's game winner.

Mikaylah is one of the most naturally talented women in the sport but she has to get significantly more explosive and really work on her conditioning to take that next step. She's no where near where she could be athletically and it really hurts her game.

She looked more athletic in the 3v3 highlights that I've seen than she ever has playing 5v5.

She was pretty damn strong though in the post season this year. She scored 18, 24 and 22. Hopefully she will take off where she left off this year because she could be dominant.

Probably don’t have to play much defense.. perfect for MKW

I am 99.999% sure the US lost their first game, and Lay was missing that first game, for whatever reason, so they had no 4th player to rotate in for freshness. Then, the next day, Lay was playing, but the team barely won, so I stopped watching the tournament cuz I figured it'd be like the disappointing HVL 3x3 teams that fell short of Gold given the early loss & the subsequent close call. This was in early May (2nd or 3rd) which, who knows, may have been a completely different tournament a month ago.
But thanks for the heads up. I'm gonna go check out the final.
EDIT: Here’s the final if anyone else is interested:

Totally correct needs to be in better shape, quicker in transition and be able to create her own shot.
