re: Mickey and Martin talk about future after the game

Martin is probably gone, late first round choice. Could come back and improve to a lottery pick. Mickey has a long way to go, he has the game of a center in a small forward's body. He was beaten up so much because of his slight frame, he was a shell of himself by the end of the year. He needs to bulk up, work on his ball handling and mid range shooting. With Simmons taking Martin's place if he leaves and I expect great improvement from Epps and Robinson, Mickey would get the opportunity to work on his best pro position as O'Bryant did last year.

quote:Martin is not ready. Athletically, he's there, but he has no true offensive game yet. If he can develop a 10-12 ft "go-to" shot, something that is money anytime he's one-on-one in the lane (like a tournaround jumper or a baby hook), he'll be a lottery pick.
Martin is ready, Mickey is not
If I were him, I'd return next season, and would work a ton on making that one shot his. He has the rest.

I agree, and i can't emphasize enough the difference in salary for this years draft class and next years b/c of the salary cap increase from the new tv deal.
Martin easily has the ability to be a top 10 pick if he improves his offensive game, mainly his shot and one on one game from the wing.
Body of David West, length and athleticism of Lamar Odom.

I think there is a better chance they return after losing in the first round. Had we made it further I think they would have both left.
I hope you're right. I was thinking just the opposite. More like..."Frick it. I'm outta here."

My hope is that these three sophomores (Mickey, Martin and Quarterman) are tight, and they realize just how close they are to doing something special on the college level.
Think of how good this team could be, just with the top 6 players returning (Mickey Martin Quarterman Hornsby Patterson Gray), and - forget for a second that Simmons is "special"- just imagine adding a couple solid players into the rotation.

With the current coaching unfortunately you're correct

Not to mention Martin's improvement from last year to this year...

Its unheard of the likes of kansas and Gonzaga players leaving early for the the NBA. They still have a lot to learn and teach when they become seniors...

I think Martin has a chance to maybe play in the NBA... He has shown improvement from last year and still might have a ways to go, but does show potential...... Mickey on the other hand is not ready at all, other than shot blocking, lacks at defense in the lane, pushed around by smaller forwards and is not very good around the basket on the offensive side .... The Bigger forwards in the NBA will eat Mickey alive... Whoever is telling Mickey he is NBA ready is totally lying to him.....
