I agree he has been good. 167 completions and 1 pass to Desean Smith. 9 to the tight end position the entire year. I hope this improves. I hope we don't waste Smith's talent while he is here.

Leave it to the rant to turn a thread about Mett into misusing a freshman tight end.

Well he has been underused but I have to say I didn't see that conversation turn coming.

How about 3rd down conversions? ...thats huge for a QB and offense in general.

58%....which is better than the 07 NC team and every team since.

LSU's defense can't win a big game.

Great 3rd post, now some qualifications that I'm sure you won't answer. What constitutes a big game? Preseason rank? End of the year rank? Title implications? How does one win said game? Does it have to be come from behind? Does he have to throw for 300 yards, 3 TDs, and no INTs? Does he have to have a legitimate defense in these games? Just so I know how terrible he has been.

People had unrealistic expectations for Mett, especially after his fast start. I know I did

Too bad other areas of the team wanted to frick up in crucial times of the games, or he would have a couple.

It is kind of ironic that when we finally get the QB we always wanted, our defense takes a nose dive.

Zach is the QB who did what we expected Ryan Perriloux to do- be a legitimate offensive threat! That being said, next year is a complete unknown, because Les believes back-ups should not be allowed to throw a pass over 5 yards for fear that someone may think he is running up the score...

Mettenberger is better than just an OK quarterback. With the defense being as horrible as it's been this season, the team is having to rely on the offense to make it through the game. Also, the offensive line is just as bad as the defense. He'll look incredibly better behind an NFL offensive line for sure. Like someone else said, if we only had him for one more year. But he's done pretty damn good this year.

I'm very satisfied with the way he's performed this year, he really developed into a good leader on that offense. He's got a lot of fight in him.

I'll bet you used to bash on Peyton Manning because he hadn't won a Super Bowl or didn't win a Nat'l Championship in College.

What about Dan Marino who never won a Super Bowl?

The Quarterback doesn't play a down on the defensive side of the ball, so when that aspect sucks why should the quarterback get shat upon for not winning?

In nearly all of LSU's losses, Mett has given LSU a chance to win, going back to last year.

vs. Florida last year...poor playcalling with his poor execution led to loss. One of few where I could blame him.

vs. Bama last year...had us in a chance to win, Defense screwed that up.

vs. Clemson last year...more of the same.

vs. Georgia this year...was a warrior. Score 41 points against a GOOD SEC team! How often do we do that? Defense takes blame again.

vs. Ole Miss...He dug his own hole, but worked out of it late and gave us a position to go into overtime. Defense allowed long game winning FG drive. Blame 1/2 of that game on Mett.

vs. Bama...Early in the 3rd, game was tied. He had LSU in a position to be up by at least 10 had it not been for the Copeland fumble and the center snapping the ball prematurely. His team gave up on him.

I cannot place the failure of LSU the past two years on Mett. He has been brilliant in my opinion.

I'm asking just because I can...:

there is no way we can get him for a third year right? no extension or appeal to the NCAA for another year of eligibility? The LSU Chapter of the Book of Mettenberger ends after this season...right?

no way

next year, actually this spring, we will have a dog-fight competition for QB

Jennings
Vs
Rettig
Vs
Rivers
Vs
Harris(early enrollee)

obvious man to beat is jennings, but I think Brandon Harris has the "it" factor you want in a QB. I think this competition will bring out the best guy overall and we will be better for it. I look for a firm decision to be made on a starter as late as early camp next August.

Mett is a very good college QB and will play in the pros. Yes, he made some mistakes in his 2 years as starter, but overall he put us in position to win every game!!! Judging by the stats, Mett is one of the best QB's to have ever played for LSU. Let's hope the next starting QB is even close to Mett.
