Below is each team's NET ranking and quadrant resumes for each team. This is a quadrant 3 game for LSU against UGA as they are outside the Top 75 (vs. 76-150 home game is Quadrant 3). These results are as of 3/6/20.
Quad 1 = Against #1-30 Home, #1-50 Neutral, #1-75 Away
Quad 2 = Against #31-75 Home, #51-100 Neutral, #76-135 Away
Quad 3 = Against #76-150 Home, #101-200 Neutral, #136-240 Away
Quad 4 = Against #161-353 Home, #201-353 Neutral, #241-353 Away

#33 (20-10, 11-6 SEC) LSU
Quad 1 = 4-8
Quad 2 = 7-1
Quad 3 = 5-1
Quad 4 = 4-0

#93 (14-15, 5-12 SEC) Georgia
Quad 1 = 1-10
Quad 2 = 4-4
Quad 3 = 6-1
Quad 4 = 3-0

LSU as of recent
Unfortunately yet another disappointing road loss for LSU this week as for the 2nd time this season a team almost drops 100 points on us as Arkansas took down LSU 99-90 putting LSU in a spot where UGA is basically a must win game to stay off the bubble as it would be a bad loss. While the officiating was certainly terrible in the Arkansas game allowing Arkansas to shoot almost as many FTs as shots they took, once again the bad LSU defense showed up and simply had no answer for most of what Arkansas was doing. It was a much uglier game and LSU did make a late run to cut it to single digits, but it was not a pretty game to say the least. Mays had a great game for us and Williams had 16 points in just 21 minutes but was in too much foul trouble to get more minutes.

Georgia as of recent
While Georgia certainly hasn’t had a good season, they have won 3 of their last 5 games, but are coming off a 14 point home loss to Florida this week. They did just beat Arkansas last weekend though putting up almost 100 on them as well. They beat Auburn a couple weeks ago and lost to South Carolina on the road in overtime, so UGA can play with the better teams in this conference for sure. UGA isn’t really playing for anything as they will be playing the 1st day games at the SECT regardless of the outcome of our game and have no hope of the NCAAT without winning the SECT.

Georgia projected starters
PF (6'8, 220) FR. Toumani Camara
PF (6'9, 235) JR. Rayshaun Hammonds
SG (6'5, 225) FR. Anthony Edwards
SG (6'5, 195) SR. Jordan Harris
PG (5-10, 180) FR. Sahvir Wheeler

Toumani Camara is one of the 3 freshmen UGA starts and plays like a more traditional power forward. In 27.4 conference minutes per game is averaging 7 points, 4 boards (1.9 offensive) on 47% from the floor. He isn’t really any 3 point threat and his conference PER on the season is just 10.1.

Rayshaun Hammonds is a stretch 4 who will fire up 3-4 3’s each game and you have to play him all over the floor. In 29 conference minutes per game he is averaging 11.6 points, 6 boards (1.6 offensive), 1.2 assists on 44% from the floor and 37% from 3, so you need to guard him out there. In conference play his PER on the year is 15.1.

Anthony Edwards is a name everyone should be familiar with as the likely #1 overall pick in the NBA draft coming up. He has to do almost everything for UGA and in 35.1 conference minutes per game is averaging 20.5 points, 6 boards, 2.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 3 turnovers on 42% from the floor and 31% from 3. While his 3 point percentage isn’t great, probably due to the high volume he has to play, he will fire up a TON of them throughout the game. He’s also an 80% FT shooter taking 6 a game. His conference PER on the year is 22.6.

Jordan Harris doesn’t really have much to stand out about himself being a 4 year journeyman player at UGA but is their best defensive player arguably. In 20.3 conference minutes per game is averaging 6.6 points, 4.4 boards (1.4 offensive), 1 assist, 1.4 steals on 48% from the floor and just 25% from 3 (only takes 2 a game). He’s pretty savvy from 2 but just doesn’t score much. His conference PER is 16.9 on the season.

Sahvir Wheeler is a freshman true diminutive PG for UGA who in 28 conference minutes per game is averaging 9 points, 2.3 boards, 3.8 assists to 3.1 turnovers on 43% from the floor and 35% from 3 (but takes just 1.6 a game). So he is very much a developing player for UGA and his conference PER on the season is 10.6.

Georgia top bench players
CG (6'3, 195) GR. Donnell Gresham Jr.
SG (6'1, 185) SR. Tyree Crump
PG (6’3, 185) SO. Tye Fagan
PF (6’8, 220) FR. Mike Peake

UGA will play some guys off the bench, but nobody really all that notable here. Gresham is a grad transfer who provides some steady experience off the bench but only puts in about 4 points a game in 17.5 minutes. Crump is their “scorer” and 3 point threat off the bench putting in about 5.6 points in 16 minutes per game. Fagan is a pretty crafty scorer from 2 point range and averages 4.3 points per 11 conference minutes played. Peake is just kind of a big body off the bench who in about 10 minutes a game puts in a 2 point bucket.

Georgia as a team
They pretty much run straight through Anthony Edwards as you would expect and when he really goes, they can really give teams a run if 1 other person steps up besides him. Even when he does go sometimes, UGA will lose though. He’s got games of 32, 36 and 37 which were all losses for UGA. UGA doesn’t play much defense, with one ranked right around ours allowing teams to dominate them inside the arc (allowing 55% from 2), and struggling to create extra opportunities for themselves defensively with low block and turnover percentages defensively. On offense, as a whole it’s mediocre, only 30% from 3, but best in conference from 2 (53%). They dont get to the line a ton or do a great job grabbing many of their misses. Their pace is going to be pretty much the same as ours.

The Matchup
Kenpom has this as a comfortable win for us and on senior night at home I think I agree we show up and shore up our tourney positioning. Right now we’re on the 8/9 line in my opinion with a NET of 33 and with a win would probably secure one of those 2 seeds at least. UGA doesn’t present a ton of challenges for us outside of how do you slow down Anthony Edwards but really it’s about slowing down everyone else enough where what he does doesn’t matter. If nobody else can step up for UGA, who cares is Edwards goes off, they simply wont score enough to keep up. 1 thing I really like here is UGA’s bad 2 point defense, as that plays right into our usual game plan of attacking the rim. We shouldn’t settle for many 3’s, just get inside and score. If you can get Hammonds in foul trouble, UGA is pretty much toast at their big spots. Let’s send our seniors off with a W and cap off a really good season and tournament berth for us.

Projected LSU Starting 5
PF (6'6, 240) SO. Darius Days - #0
SF (6'9, 235) FR. Trendon Watford - #2
SF (6'5, 210) SR. Marlon Taylor - #14
SG (6'4, 205) SR. Skylar Mays - #4
PG (6'4, 205) SO. Javonte Smart - #1

Main rotational players
PF (6'6, 230) SO. Emmitt Williams - #5
SF (6'5, 225) rFR. Aundre Hyatt - #15
PG (6’2, 190) FR. James Bishop - #10

Kenpom's Prediction: LSU 85 UGA 76

Keys to the game, IMO:

1) Make Edwards work. Tell Taylor he doesn't need to score a single point on offense, just make Edwards' life hell tomorrow. Deny him the basketball, trap him on pick and roll, etc. He'll score some but you can't let him do it efficiently.

2) Attack Wheeler defensively. We have big guards who love to get downhill, and 5-10/180 wheeler will have to guard one of them. Getting him tired/in foul trouble will be key because his ability to penetrate into the lane will give us problems.

3) Crash the glass. Our offensive rebounding hasn't been as good lately as it was earlier in the year, but UGA is not a good defensive rebounding team and they don't have great size to stop us from converting those second chances into points.

The body language the last few games seems to show not just a team that is tired, but somewhat disinterested. Even in the win vs. A&M you just didn't see very much enthusiasm by a group of guys that in that past have shown that.

Hopefully they can find a little more excitement playing for their seniors, get a win, then take a few days to recharge for post season play. Losing sucks the life out of any team, but after tomorrow a (proverbial) NEW season begins.

I really think this is it, not much hardware to play for after the UK game, and really took the team out of it.

Also Edwards is prone to commit some bad fouls just saying.

I was leaning toward this way of thinking but then noticed Smart's response after fouling out. He went to the bench and balled up both fists tightly and hung his head. His forearms were shaking because his fists were balled so tightly.

Also, the team was locked in during the 2nd half. the problem is that (in their recent defeats) they start off sleep walking and wake up once its too late.

Not to mention they’re also honoring Sims with the seniors.

They’ll be motivated for this game.

Auburn and Florida play before LSU.

Both go down and the house that Mamoud Abdul Aansjhrhsnandbd will be rocking with LSU poised to lock up the 2 seed.

I hope so. Need LSU to be in the bottom half of the bracket so it doesn't disturb by St. Paddy's day drinking on Saturday (after they win on Friday, of course). Parade/drinking at 10:00 am...basketball game at ~2:45 pm...(possibly) passing out at ~5:00 pm. Pretty nice little Saturday.

The early start on Sat. would throw a wrench in those plans.

Yea I know this season kinda got flipped on its head after this weak stretch but I do hope the crowd comes to not only honor one of the best representatives this university can have in Skylar, but also honor Wayde's life one last time and send the team into postseason play on a high note.

God I hope it’s not Shows. He was horrible at Arkansas, and that’s par for him.
He hates us.
Even Calipari hates him!

I love Skylar Mays, the heart and fearlessness he plays with and am proud of how he has represented LSU these four years. IMHO he deserves all the love we can give him today. Geux Skyler and Geaux Tigers!!
