Wade has won everywhere he’s gone, but yea it’s a “handicap” tournament appearance unless it’s a power conference. But wait a minute Wade made the tournament 4 out of his 5 years at LSU only missing it his first year after a 2-16 season by Johnny Jones…u tell me how he’s not a good coach
Posted on 12/30/24 at 3:21 pm to JohnDooley
His argument is silly and it’s a double standard. 1st, one bid leagues have a major reduction in odds to make the tourney compared to at large conf teams. 2nd when McMahon won at a dogshit conference it was a sign that he was good but when Wade does it he’s a “handicapped” loser. That poster is simply incapable of discussing this topic in a reasonable way.

In fairness, the Southland can't hold a candle to the Missouri Valley. The MVC is objectively a far better conference year in and year out

Murray State was still in the OVC when McMahon was there which at the time was probably a bit worse than todays southland conference

Learned something today

The QVC wasn’t very good last season and we lost to a southland team last season so it’s not the giant gap you might think it is especially concerning the teams from those two conferences that compete for tourney bids.

It certainly wasn’t as good as the MVC is now, but it wasn’t as bad as the southland is.

I'm aware. I don't think this really gives any credence to the overall strength of the Southland historically.

You're putting words in my mouth. My post was concerning the MVC not the OVC. I still think the OVC is a better league top to bottom than the Southland, but you are correct, it is not a monumental gap.

The conference is about the same. McMahon’s last year at Murray the MVC was the 11th ranked conference according the NET. Last year they were 10th.

Didn’t mean to, I just put the wrong initials for the conference and I screwed that up too lol.

I thought that was a subtle dig calling it the "QVC." Might have to use that one going forward

There’s a joke in there somewhere

I was comparing the OVC to the southland. The MVC had been about where they are.
The point that was being made is that McMahon ‘s Murray St. was in the OVC, which is not as good as the MVC. Although, it wouldn’t have made a ton of difference for his good team there.

This is false. Grown up watching a ton of Southland Conference basketball, and it is hands down the worst basketball conference in the NCAA.
Here’s some facts for you:
Southland Conference
Record: 57 Seasons, 7256-7711, (Records do not reflect forfeits and vacated games)
NCAA Tournament: 47 Teams (18-48), 0 Final Fours, 0 Championships
Ranked in AP Poll: 1 (Preseason), 3 (Final), 46 (Total)
Ohio Valley Conference
Record: 77 Seasons, 9063-8988, (Records do not reflect forfeits and vacated games)
NCAA Tournament: 71 Teams (27-75), 1 Final Four, 0 Championships
Ranked in AP Poll: 3 (Preseason), 12 (Final), 128 (Total)
It’s not even close. Stop pushing these false narratives.

You misunderstood the post. Wasn’t comparing the Southland to the MVC/OVC

I also find it funny that you guys have no problem with Les Miles or Orgeron or Saban or Aranda or any other previous coach/player being discussed here except for WW.
Those other coaches you say nobody has a problem with mentioning?
Three of the four you mentioned actually won a natty, and the fourth (Aranda) also won one, but as an assistant.
WW dorks are like the girl that gets dumped after putting out and endlessly pines about “what should have been.”
WW never got past the sweet 16 and had to break rules just to get where he got. And oh…he broke the rules like an amateur.
WW is gone. He’s not coming back. I wish him good riddance.

That’s irrelevant, Dale Brown, Johnny Jones, Lou Tepper, Matt Canada, Gerry Dinardo and Smoke are all talked about too.

Hmmmm? Sounds like a natural fit for Mac. He could probably post a winning record, maybe not a championship.
Mac already schedules teams that fit that criteria. Mississippi Valley State, New Orleans, Stetson.
Mac has found his niche.

So, just to be clear. You prefer THIS MEDIOCRE bullshite (McMahon), over having LSU relevant and successful in basketball on the national scene (Wade), correct???????
If so, HOLY SPIT!!!!! You either hate men's basketball (perhaps you have a white hood in the trunk of your car????), or you're motherflucking ignorant.
Or, behind door #3, you're stupid enough to believe that Wade was one of a few select coaches that were recruiting players illegally, which would take your ignorance to a completely different level.
You also talk like he was here for 10+ years and never won jack in the NCAAs. Do me a favor and check out Scott Drew's career arc over at Baylor. I bet your dumb arse would have been screaming about how bad he was if he was doing that at LSU and not Baylor, right??
All we have is to hope that this motherflucking ZOMBIE can somehow light a fire under the program and have us in the tournament every year, just like Wade did.
Whichever it is, you ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer, home slice.
