I saw the Auburn 2008 game the other night. 44 was completely confused and outclassed out there. This has always been the case for 44. This will continue to be the case for 44.

Whatever, McCray will be the starter then with 13:45 left in the first quarter of the Washington game Ron Brooks will come in and McCray will be lucky to be on Special Teams.

Wrong. Being confused has never been his problem. Covering the slot guy is. The confusion you saw wasn't just by #44 and it wasn't just in the Auburn game. Chad Jones, Chris Hawkins, Darry Beckwith have all been quoted saying what a clusterfrick the defense was last year. You can thank Malleveto for that.

So, a 3rd string CB, who played S in the spring, KR is going to come in the 1st quarter?

You're pretty knowledgeable.

Right now? Patrick Peteson & Jai Eugene OR Chris Hawkins at CB. Chad Jones and Danny McCray at safety.

great in run support

In several games, most notably Georgia I noticed something very odd:

I don't know whose fault it was but several times when Moreno broke off big runs either McCray or Coleman would be near the LOS but so close to another defensive player that they would confuse and get in each other's way when going for the tackle.

I dont know if it was wrong place/wrong time, defensive scheme, or what, but two DB's shouldnt be sitting within 10ft of each other in the position to have this happen.

Congrats to McCray for working hard and earning a starting spot. Assuming he has improved, we should be damn strong (and somewhat deep) at safety.

Again, #44 has worked hard and wants to do well. The question is.. does he have the talent???

mccray is a very good strong safety.

No he's not. Coffee made him his bitch in the first series of the Bama game, and he had some little Tulane RB running by him the week before.

McCray is the least talented player to get so much PT for LSU this decade. He'll run a 4.8 next spring, and will be lucky to even make it to an NFL training camp. He just isn't an SEC level talent, even as a safety.

It would be nice if that were true, but it's not.

It's not good when Washington's QB is both bigger and faster than McCray.

didnt miles say mccray may very well be the starter at strong safety? That doesnt necessarily mean its concrete. We all know how les continually tries to confuse people and he words senteneces weird. I just cant put that much stock into it when every daily practice report has consistently said hatcher or taylor has been working with the first team.

I'm glad for the kid. He's obviously invested a lot in LSU. Through all of the things that could've kept him from locking up a starting spot (including his own ability), he's obviously continued to bust his arse and at least be in contention. In between the work ethic of the guys we have competing for that spot and the intelligence of our staff, I'm sure whoever is back there has earned it.

I'll still believe it when I see it

this could very well be a senior move that Miles is famous for... the guy has reportedly worked hard and done relatively well in fall camp, so Miles probably wants him to go down as the starter for his years of service

-------------------

Bingo. Classy move for Miles to start McCray at Washington.

44 was confused before Peveto took over. If the coaches made the move they must see something in him. I'll give ole Danny another chance, basically because I have no choice.

Varney at the TP clarified the situation today. As I suspected, it's still very iffy that McCray will be the starter.
