Its day one of SPRING practice. Meaningless. I'll get excited about who is taking first team reps the week before the first game in September.

Thought I read Garrett Nussmeier was not pleased with being a backup.. My thoughts were everyone waits their turn to start.

Ill get us started. Max Johnson showed flashes and consistency better than myles best play. If max is killing it now, invest. He really showed the IT factor several times.

As someone who really thinks Max has the skills to be a very good QB for us I will caution the enthusiasm a bit. In his 2 starts against 2 of the worst defenses he completed 55% of his passes.

That being said, I like his mobility and poise and he actually put up better stats in relief against better defenses. I love the open competition and whoever comes out as the starter should be battle tested and ready to take on any SEC team.

Looking at the highlights from the first spring practice, one thing that is clear: Garrett is not 6'2.

Garrett looks so small. What is his height?

Like I said, flashes. The freshman in him was clearly out there a lot too. But I saw him show the two things I love to see in a qb, very smart decision making/scrambling and confidence. Im one of the ones who were yellin that Joe is amazing before the UCF game. The more max gets in, the more we'll see those flashes of greatness become his regular. Man we got 3 great qbs, this is exciting. The future is gonna be great.

Ive been looking forward to this season since 2019. Was prepared for an ugly 2020.

Perfect year for our new offensive staff to be coming in. They have no previous loyalties to any one player or recruit. They can simply evaluate all spring and then go with the QB they feel gives us the best chance to win.

Agree. This team has talent, experience and depth. The biggest question mark is the new staff. I like the energy and attitude, but I have no idea if these guys can put together a good scheme offensively or defensively. What I do believe is this team will not be complacent or uninspired.

Umm why?

Because he's a 5th year player, he's the more gifted passer, and he was playing really well before the injury.

O likes guys to compete, and he's trying to keep the younger guys out of the transfer portal. I don't see what's so confusing about this.

So many bad takes on this thread, the worst of which is that this is a ploy by O to manufacture a fake competition.

The correct answer is that O got this exactly right. It would have been a mistake to do anything different. Max earned the right to start things off with the way he played and what he accomplished at the end of the season. Anything different would have come across as unfair.

None of that changes the idea that this year is an open competition for the starting spot. In fact, giving Max the nod to start things off sets the precedent of an open competition. It's yours if you earn it.

Probably because Myles is coming back from injury and will take a bit to get back up to speed.

Let's see Max Johnson started 2 SEC games had 2 4th Quarter game winning drives (and spare me if the shoe wasn't thrown theory). He earned it
