Cam Newton = Vince Young.

little guys will bounce off him and big guys cannot keep up with him.

It would be like a 15 yr old boy scout vs 11 yr old cub scouts.

It will take a spectacular game plan to corral him.

I am hoping that Ark beats them next weekend, in a 42-40 game.

Fortunately our team seems to be into gang tackling this year. I don't think Newton will go far.

And it doesnt matter how far he goes without the ball. TM was running over to try to strip the ball on about 5 consecutive plays I saw last night.

TM is a mad man! Newton may prefer a life of thievery over one game of running from this kid.

I guarantee if Newton is in the pocket and Tyrann comes from the blindside, he will go down hard.

probably true, but I would rather him go down four times softly than one time hard. our 'D' has played like the billy joel song...."PRESSURE!".

just shakin' my head thinking about all the mutts who wanted to get rid of Chavis.

Newton poses several problems for a defense, but the main thing is to get pressure up the middle... #92 Drake Nevis - CHECK, and maintain your lanes on the outside and do not over run the QB, Chancey and Mingo with a healthy dose of Shep - CHECK.

No you will not hold him on every play, but our defense is the best suited to stop him from what I see.

ETA: Just thinking out loud, but going 4-3 and move Mingo to an inside LB spot wouldn't be a bad idea. COULD work.

I had to play against Mathieu last year, played receiver for shaw. Don't bother looking for me up, I wasn't too good. Had to block Mathieu for most of the game. His athleticism and quickness was unreal. He plays with an even bigger attitude now than he did in high school. I was able to kinda get in his head and draw a personal foul but for someone who is praised so highly for his cover skills he was about as physical as they come. He seems like he controls himself better on the field now.

I feel ya, but blitzing can leave running lanes open on the opposite side or the outside (depending on the blitz). Yes you need to blitz, but also need discipline while blitzing. We have that, just saying.

The best praise a football player can get is that from who he has competed against.

not sure if your still playing, but don't falls seem empty once you step off the field? I know it did for me. Still miss the feel of a friday night.

I think Chavis should put Mingo as a linebacker/hybrid player (much like Terrell Suggs) and have him spy Newton the whole game. He's big enough and fast enough to keep up with Newton.

We used PP7 as a Devine spy against WVU.

Agree completely.

I'm almost in the boat of saying you sell out 100% stopping his rush attack. Try to force him to play from the pocket all game. If he can beat you that way, props to him. But I'll take my chances with that as opposed to him getting a 70 yard scamper.

The SEC has had some big QB's through the years.

Jared Lorenzen 6'4" 285 lbs.
JaMarcus Russell 6'6" 260 lbs.
Cam Newton 6'6" 250 lbs.

compared to:

Vince Young 6'5" 233 lbs.
EJ Manuel is listed as 6'4" 235 lbs.

Interesting, Joe Flacco is listed at 6'6" 236 lbs. and Derek Anderson is 6'6" 230 lbs.

Remember when Derek Anderson and JaMarcus Russell shared the field in '04. Crazy how their careers turned out.

I am convinced that Mathieu thinks that if doesn't get a big hit, cause a fumble, or sack the QB on every single play that Les is going to cane him on the 50 yard line.

The guy plays like he is possessed, he reminds me of Bob Sanders except he isn't made out of glass.

See Michigan St. strategy vs. Denard and Michigan. AND YES, I know that Cam is likely a better passer than Denard, but the same strategy would work.

I just don't think he can beat us with his arm considering a) the pressure he will be under, b) the quality of our DBs, and c) the speed we have on the edge.
