They know Nix's and Aiken's. Mac reportedly had one. He wanted top 10 money: $3m
Aiken slot = $7,922,100
Nix slot = $370,000
Mac slot = ?????
so that = 8,292,100
they agreed to 1,500,000 for Nix and if mac took 3M that would leave $3,792,100 for Aiken?
I cannot find a value for 21st round.
eta: i think there is none

He was basically celebrating 2 weeks ago. Seems to have relaxed on that a bit.

I believe they only go top 10 rounds.

Aiken's slot was at $7.9 mil if my LINKAGE is correct. Say the Astros get Aiken for $4 mil, nearly a whole million above what they're saying right now, that's $3.9 mil under cap. Subtract the $1.1 mil over cap signing from Nix and you have around $2.8 mil of extra money. Mac's slot in the 21st round is marginal (don't have the number in front of me).
That's real close to the $3 mil number. Plus I think the Astros have this extra trick where they can pay up to 5% more than their first round slot to another player before getting penalized. But I'm not certain of that rule. Someone else did the math on it earlier in this thread I believe.
Eta: I see everyone else was doing the math while I was.

Heard part of this, but from @aaronfitt reports that Astros offered Marshall $1M on draft day, but he wanted $1.5M.

Nothing is signed. They don't have that money until Aiken signs anyway. He'd be stupid not to ask for more if the Astros have the extra money. Like I said, they have the same agent.

I did the math, the 5% was an extra 660,000 or somewhere around there.
So that is 3.4 million to Marshall
So that is 3.4 million to Marshall

Yeah and what does he do when the Astros tell him to frick off? Why go to UCLA and risk everything when the Astros gave him everything he wanted in the first place.
That money is going to Marshall and not Nix

Even at a $4 mil signing for Aiken, which is definitely realisitic as the Astros are only offering 3.1 right now.
Mac surely won't turn down $2.5-$3.4.

After round 10, teams can offer a player up to $100,000 without it counting toward the teams bonus pool. So Marshalls slot value is up to $100K.

I was optimistic about Aiken a few days ago but this is getting really really ugly.

He can go to UCLA and show out over there and potentially get drafted in the top 5 in a few years recouping more than double what the Astros are offering him.
Believe it or not, they aren't offering him "everything he wanted in the first place." They merely drafted him. What they are offering him is 40% of his slot because of disparities in opinion of medical diagnoses.
I wouldn't blame him if he walked from $3.1. These athletes are competitive and I bet every bone in his body believes he's worthy of that $7.9 and wants to do everything he can to prove them wrong.

So it looks like if our math stands up that the Astros can offer Mac around $3.5 mil if Aiken takes $4 mil.
I'm sweating.

Marshall admits his situation is tied to Aiken but that he has no plans to speak w/Astros and that he's out of the loop on their plans.

That post was about Jacob Nix not Brady Aiken

Have you never negotiated to buy a car or house? Until there's a signature, there's always something to negotiate. They say "no", he hasn't lost anything.

I started sweating when the rumors came out the Stros pulled Aikens $6.5 million offer and came back with $5 million. I'm just hoping Aiken sticks to his guns, holds steady, and the Stros come up. The $3.1 million (40% of slot value) offer was just a bit of a dick move trying to strong arm him. I'd still like both parties to meet somewhere in the middle and get back to being happy, but I'm scared this is getting too ugly and even if the Stros sign Aiken, the damage will already be done.
