My guess is to spell francois

To me, i think Simon should start when we play a team with a taller receiver like Oregon's 6'5 Tunei just for the better matchup. Simon has extremely long arms and great ball skills.
Matheiu is going give to you more big plays. Simon is going to give you more consistent plays when it comes to defending passes.
Matheiu is better in run support
Simon should see the field in all jumpball situations.

Starting a freshman at LT is not uncommon at all. Yes, Ciron did it and so did Whitworth, I believe he was a true freshman. Not positive on that, but Bama just had the big guy a couple years ago that came right in. Forgot his name, he got suspended for the bowl game his senior year.

I really think they will all start at some point and be interchanged depending on the team we are playing. My guess is Claiborne starts at one corner and Simon probably gets 60% of the snaps at the other corner with Mathieu getting 30% at corner while also playing the nickle and Jenkings getting the other 10%. IMO
In honesty though, none of us really know.

Since we have a new OC, I don't know if we can say what we will be running.

LT: Collins
This is the big question mark in my mind. I think he CAN play and possibly start. I don't know if he NEEDS to play though and a redshirt year would be great for him. I think Faulk gets the nod. And some think Dworaczyk moves outside if Williford steps up this year.

Anyone heard anything about his rehab? Is he expected to be back at full strength at the begining of the year?

Didn't Adams start at DE all last year? Why wouldn't he again?
And DT is going to be an interesting battle to watch with Downs, Ferguson and Johnson. I hope Davenport gets some PT, even if it's in goalline situations.

Offense
QB: SR. Jefferson
RB: SO. Ware
FB: SO. Copeland
WR1: JR. Randle
WR2: JR. Shepard
TE: SR. Peterson
LT: SO. Faulk

As far as guys who will play a lot off the bench...
QB: SO. Mettenberger - We didn't sign a big JUCO guy to sit on the bench all year. As soon as Jefferson struggles, and we know he will, we'll see this guy.
OG/C: SR. Hebert - Obviously will spell Lonergan and Blackwell/Dworacyzk a good deal. He's always played a good bit.
TE: SR. Joseph - He is that 6th Olineman we will want in our blocking TE set.
TE: JR. Clement - That very good all around TE to help out with Peterson.
WR: FR. Landry - Should solidfy himself as our #3 WR fairly quickly because he is that good.
RB: rFR. Gore - I think he plays a lot more than folks think he does this year. He's our only fast/scat back and brings a dimension to our offense at RB no one else can.
RB: SO. Ford - Obviously the main guy to spell Ware when he needs a breather and we still need a bigger back in the game.
CB: SO. Simon - When we go to nickel, Mathieru kicks down to nickel and Simon definitely takes over on the outside for him IMO. Deadliest package we have.
S: SO. Loston - The competition will be intense between him and Reid and I think it's not out of the oridnary we rotate our safeties as much as our DL because we have just this much talent there.
S: rFR. Vinson - Can help spell Taylor a lot at safety and obviously has shown a lot of talent after his redshirt year.
DE: SO. Mingo - When we need a pass rusher in that obvious situation he's clearly the guy we're going to.
DE: JR. Edwards - Obviously that first guy behind Adams we want out there in that DE rotation. Dont see any drop off from Adams to him.
DT: JR. Downs - Not an every down starter but a guy who can give you a quick few snaps in a row as a penetrating type of DT.
DT: SO. Logan - That guy behind Brockers who will rotate in a good deal.
OLB: SR. Francois - I think he gets beat out by Hatcher moving down to LB but he still is the first LB off the bench for Baker or Hatcher.
LT: FR. Collins - He may not redshirt if he pushes Faulk enoguh to start, but unlikely considering he isn't getting on campus until too late IMO...with Washington and Shaw as backup tackles he possibly takes a redshirt

Whitworth redshirted. If we were playing an easier schedule early on or if Collins enrolled in the spring semester i'd give it a chance.
But because the schedule is loaded and because he hasn't received a playbook or practiced against college competition, especially SEC level competition yet, I'd say its pretty foolish for anyone to think he will be a day one starter at LT

Let's play 18 on offense and 21 on defense and plead the 'CAM' rule that we didn't know we couldn't do that, or is that the 'TRESSEL' rule?

Call me crazy but I feel like from what I've seen on film that Jarvis Landry should walk onto campus and start over Shepard. And I love Russell Shepard...Landry, to me, is just that good!
Posted on 6/6/11 at 12:29 pm to bthomp1
All I know is that we are stacked at O-line, RB, & the secondary. We could have a 2nd string that would start for most colleges.
Posted on 6/6/11 at 12:47 pm to thunderbird1100
Nice take Thunderbird. The only thing I would add is Boone/Wright will be 3rd and 4th WR for most of the first half of the season. Les likes guys with experience out there, and it will take Landry a bit to get comfortable with all the ins and outs of the offense.

Starting a True Freshman at LT is very uncommon for LSU and in the SEC. Whitworth and Black were redshirt freshman. As far as Andre Smith from Bama. He was only the 7th true freshman ever to start for Alabama in the first game. Smith was said to be the best offensive line recruit in the past 10 years at the time. La'el will be a very good tackle at LSU but it is not likely that it will be in game one as a true freshman.

I didn't say they weren't good football players. I was commenting on the idiot saying there's trivial difference in starting as a true freshman and as a redshirt freshman. Nice try though!

Just as an FYI:
A catholic league team has only played in the championship game 3 times in the past 20 years... And lost all 3 times.
But, where La'el played they didn't even play against the catholic teams in the state because he played in 3A and most of the schools are 5A
La'el may not have played against a D1 defensive end all season much less an SEC caliber one.
Believe me I would like to see him come in and be incredible right away as a LT, but lets wait and see.

And he HAD to start. They needed talent on the offensive lineman his freshman year. M. Oher started as a guard then moved outside later in the year, but he likewise HAD to play because of the lack of talent.
Collins doesn't HAVE to play. If he doesn't have to, then he shouldn't.
