Part of DiNardo's "Bringing back the magic" plan was to have LSU wear white at home. He had to get the NCAA to change the rules stating that the visiting team wore white. He was able to get them to change the rule, but the new rule stated that the visiting team had to agree. Vandy was pissed at him for leaving them for LSU, so they did not agree one year. This started the tradition of the white out game, which is now the gold game. Later LSU was able to get the NCAA to change the rule to the home team picks who wears white. The argument was that the home team tells the visitors what locker room they will use, what side of the field they will sit on and everything else, so why don't they get to tell them who is wearing white. The NCAA agreed. When Saban came, he wanted to honor the past teams that had to wear purple at home and he had the team wear white for the first home game and all SEC home games. The other non-conference games they would wear purple. For the most part Miles stuck with that plan until this year. I guess with only 6 home games he wanted to wear purple more than just once.

If you get permission from the visiting team it's fine IIRC

quote:only for non conference games... Vince Dooley and the SEC office (with heavy persuading from LSU) deemed that in conference games, the home team chooses which uniform it would like to wear.
My understanding is that your opponent has to agree to it.
Can we put this to an end now, please?

Has anyone mentioned who gets to choose?

so why wouldnt they want to wear their home colors? Why would UF not want to wear blue? Why would auburn not want to wear blue? Why wouldnt ole miss want to wear blue or red? Why would bama not want to wear crimson? List goes on and on.

some schools used to decline to be a dick, others didn't want to wear their colors on a hot afternoon.

wearing white isn't cheating. It's wearing yellow that's cheating.

LSU wearin white at home-
At one time, the home team wore white bc it allowed the opposing team to "show off" the visiting team's colors. Later it was changed requiring home team to wear the "dark" or colored jersey. Then the rule allowed the home to wear white, if the visitor agreed. Now, it's the home team's call- no agreement needed.
1983 LSU went about 4 years in the 70s without wearing purple anywhere.
