This is a masterful breakdown and a good read of what lsu did wrong vs fla st last yr and how teams used that and exploited them all year.

Not affecting the QB is what doomed LSU (along with STs)
Zero sacks on 33 attempts
11 of 17 conversion on 3rd down
This allowed FSU to remain balanced offensively, controlling clock and also allowing for shot plays (the trick play TD pass).

Abysmal special teams and 2 dropped TD passes by Boutte

It’s wild to look back at that team we put on the field vs FSU last season
Look at the starters vs FSU and vs Alabama…it’s a completely different team. Harold Perkins didn’t play a snap vs FSU, think it’s gonna be a bit different this year

I think S. Jones taking the place of Gaye will be a difference on its own, dude couldn’t finish a play to save his life besides his first game of his career

The biggest weakness at the Florida State game was they had played a game and we were completely green with a new coach and half a new team. And we still almost overcame that.

This will be one of the biggest differences and I don’t think it’s getting enough attention. Ali Gaye was soft. Our front 7 this year compared to the beginning of last year is light year better and they will make a huge difference in the game. Last year FSU lived with 3rd and short against us and I don’t think that’s going to happen this year

Ali G was a first rounder according to a lot on this board going into the season

Special teams was as bad as any I’ve ever seen in that game. Daniels scared to throw, Boutte stone hands, zero pressure on the QB.
That was an ugly game

Your starting LBs that game were Greg Penn and Mike Jones.
Savion Jones didn't play much.
More than that, this guy didn't play a single defensive snap...
How impactful is he? Ask Lane Kiffin whose team was up 17-3, three seconds into the 2nd quarter last year.
Perkins made Bryce Young uncomfortable several times last year with his ridiculous closing speed. Jordan Travis is a solid QB. He ain't Bryce Young

Did LSU change anything schematically after the first quarter?
Yeah, they did a good job. I don't think it was a lot of schematics. They played No. 40 (linebacker Harold Perkins) more, which we eventually thought they would do because he doesn't look like anybody else out there.
