Was there in the upperdeck, with my gf, and buddy of mine with his date
He scored the four free tix via ShoeTown.
They looked like ants down there from the nosebleeds, awesome crowd and game.
Went to Pat O's courtyard afterwards, bounced into a cousin and his date, who insisted on springing the tab. What a day and nightcap!
A week later my uncle tells me I should've asked him for tix, wouldve been courtside. He was good friends with Sonny and Jimmy Vaccaro. He was too busy to go, and his two sons don't enjoy watching sports, but Sonny had called offering tix. I wanted to cry.

Think how good a team it would have been if Roberts, Williamson, Boudreaux, and Burns were all eligible. The next year they had Shaq, but Blanton had graduated. Roberts was a dominant and talented center. It's too bad we only had him one year and because he shared the stage with Shaq I don't think we got to see just how truly dominant he was.

Thanks for posting this! I loved Sims and Vernel. Probably my two favorite basketball players of all time. Just played hard and we’re usually at a height disadvantage.
It was legendary when Vernel teabagged that a-hole from Tennessee that fought with Shaq the year before.

Say what you will about Daddy Dale..but we used to play everybody back in the day. As a student, I remember camping out at the Assembly Center on numerous occasions. Houston and Phi Slamma Jamma was a huge game my sophomore year..too bad we came up short..but was great fun.

Well who really knows the true attendance but I know for a fact that it was reported after the game as 54,321. That’s a number sequence that you just don’t forget. Regardless, I was in that number with my roommates and a couple of other buddies. We were students at the time. What a blast we had that day.
Also remember the next day when we watched the VHS tape of it we had recorded, Dale Brown in the waning minutes with his superior bench coaching in the huddle during a timeout pointing at each of the players in the game at the time… Are we gonna win this game? Are we gonna win this game? Are we gonna win this game? and so on.
Oh Dale.

The Superdome pioneered the full stadium seating arrangements they now use for every final four. Before 2010-ish they only used half stadium set ups. But the Superdome was using full stadium set ups since the 80s.

That game was epic, one of my all time favorite LSU games in any sport. The Georgetown game, Arizona, UNLV, Oklahoma, Loyola Marymount and countless times we beat Kensucky. Chris Jackson was the man, but Ricky Blanton is one of my all-time favorites. And you are right about Simms how smooth of a shooter was that guy. May his son rest in peace.??

What stood out to me was how effective Sims was scoring

LSU with the gold uniforms. I think that’s one of only 7 times LSU has ever worn the gold uniforms in basketball.
