Victory at Alabama. Arnsparger's first year as coach. Dalton Hilliard, Gary James, Michael Brooks, Jeff Wickersham. Good memories. New, great coach who was DC for Shula's great Dolphins teams. A few losses that year that shouldn't have happened, but fun team.

The first drive they went right down the field and scored a TD.

Punt block made the difference, great win but team was not quite ready for SEC Champs...fixed that in 86 and 88

Also, sounds like the old radio announcers - John Fergueson with the play-by-play and I think Bert Jones was one of the color commentators.

They subbed in the great Eric Andolsek onto the OL at one point.

LSU should be SEC champs, Florida was ruled ineligible and got stripped of the title

Just listening to John Fergueson's voice brings back a lot of happy memories of childhood. As a kid, I listened to most games on the radio. Didn't get to go to a lot of games as a kid and only a caught a few per season as a student.

They put the tornado symbol on the scoreboard at halftime. The rain at halftime was = to the 1988 Miami game.

Took a bus trip from BR Sophomore year to the game. It was warm in BR when we left the night before and we were all stupid and loaded. Before internet and weather apps.
Weather was very different when we got to Alabama.

I can vaguely remember flag girls having a difficult time performing at halftime with the band. Tornado touched down several miles away from stadium and most people went under the stadium at halftime.

Best times of my life!

I was there as well, probably on the same bus trip coordinated by Brian Barkemeyer.

Eric Martin ran the quick slant better than any LSU WR up until last year. He took several slant routes to the house in his career.

Herman Fontenot and Martin were a great 1/2 combo.

My freshman year at LSU.

It was a glorious time to go to college.

I was there. They announced over the PA that a tornado had been spotted in the area and yet the game continued. The rain was torrential and water was rolling down the aisles like a creek. We won in Bama in 82, 84, 86 and 88 but couldn’t beat them in Tiger Stadium to save our lives.

Was there. Stayed in the stadium during play, most went under the stadium. Was also at '86 and '88 games.

That's really awesome. I don't know why but it was the first thing I thought of. It reminded me of the Bernie Moore turf when I was a kid and used to play on it. I can imagine that day hurt like hell. Yall had a great team back then. That was my memorable years of first going to Tiger football games. Awesome days

I was a freshman in the band that year and we marched at halftime. I was carrying a base drum and rain was just pounding the top of my drum. Scary, but a great memory.
