I am not sure the rivalry will ever reach what it once was. Sad, because of the close proximity of the two schools, combined with the whole BR vs NO at anything. A lot of BR kids that wanted to play for LSU still end up at Tulane I would think..................

Sorry .. I was thinking that it would be awesome for the BAMA game to have TS be like a "Powder Keg" waiting to blow ...

If you are around Gulf Shores, AL, and see a guy decked out in LSU garb, and looks to be around 81 years old, be sure to talk to him. He wears LSU stuff everywhere but to church.

And who might he be??

C'mon people, somebody has got to have a video of that fight...............

Was the '84 game on Tigervision? Try contacting them? Surely, the university's athletic dept has it.

After the game my dad said "This game ended in the way it always should...a bench clearing brawl." He hated Tulane.

Yeah, my dad felt the same way. I was 10 years old when he took me to that game. That fight seems like it happend yesterday. My dad is an old salty Istrouma grad. I remember the look in his eye was like he wanted to go out there and throw hands with em. Damn, those were the days!

Tigervision did show the '84 game, including the fight. Toolame did an on-side kick to start the game. The Weenies recovered it & later made a FG.

This was always the game I wanted LSU to win the most. Growing up in New Orleans, I had to listen to the Weenie fans talk smack for a whole yr on the few occasions when the beat LSU in FB or men's basketball. (Nobody cared about baseball when I was a kid.)
I NEVER saw anyone wear Toolame gear except right after the Weenies beat LSU. They only came out of the closet & showed their true loyalties then. Otherwise, they were just anti-LSU fans. I remember reading in the Times Picayune in '85 an article that during yet another loss for the Weenies, the loudest noise their fans made during the whole game was when the P.A. announced that Florida had defeated LSU. That's typically Toolame.

I was there! Major rivalry back then, more so than now, IMO.

Didn't some Tulane students throw green paint on Mike before one of the games?

was at the Florida State game in '82 when the oranges were thrown. I remember that game because of the fog that rolled in around halftime. It was an eerie scene. I think that was the same year we lost to Tulane but I don't remember anything about the '84 game.

I was at that Florida State game as well; the fog rolling in was really cool. You couldn't see the other end of the stadium.

What year was it when Tulane students let Mike IV out of his cage? Was it 83 or 84? that was some crazy shite. Lukily no one was killed. A bunch of trees were clawed up and taken down before he was tranqualized.

LSU students used to sneak in tons of green painted hot dogs to throw at the greenie weenies. That was some funny stuff back then.

They let him out. It was like in the late '70s. I seem to recall. Mike made it about as far as downtown BR, before being caught.

Am I wrong?

Do It!!! It is funny to watch green hot dogs fly out of the stands and hit the weenie football team. As the student section would let those things fly they would chant "Beat the Weenies!"

Soneone let Mike out of his cage. He never made it off campus. Fortunately, it was a holiday, late at night, and not many folks on campus. Campus Security followed him in their cars and got him to go into the track stadium. His trainer shot him with a tranquilizer dart and he was loaded up and returned to his cage. It was in the late 1970's.

The Mike IV out of his cage took place on Thanksgiving night of 1981.
