Talk about a fall from national prominence!

When was the last time neither the men or the women finished in the Top 10 besides tbis year? Pat Henry would have us Top 5 every yr if not National Champs both Indoor or Outdoor!

I mean shite happens to a certain extent. I can excuse the women since they still put together a decent team score. That being said 2 points from the men when you’re a program of LSU’s caliber is pretty damn pathetic. I’m not quite sure what exactly happened to get it to this point as I don’t follow LSU track as closely as others but I would hope this is just a one off instance.

Pat Henry still coaches at A&M and he wasn't in the Top 10 of either Men's or Women's. Do you want to revise your statement that he would have the in the Top 5 every year?

It was a bad meet for lsu.

Did you look at where Pat Henry’s teams finished? And where they’ve been finishing relative to lsu the last few years?

Don't we typically do better I outdoor than indoor anyway?

Indoor doesn't matter. Outdoor does.

Dennis Shavers is not IT, never was!! This guy may be the next coach to go into retirement because track and field at LSU has traditionally been outstanding. Surely Woodward has noticed his performance. Furthermore, it seems that the relay teams break down at all big meets.

LSU was a consistent powerhouse in track and field until Skip Bertman allowed Pat Henry to leave LSU without any attempt to keep him here. I think Bertman was jealous of Henry because many of the times Bertman won a national championship in baseball Henry would deliver a national championship in track shortly afterwards. Poor AD decision making.

While I dog Shaver harder than anyone, the women will KILL the sprints come the outdoor season. I’m predicting damn mean enough points by just sprints and relays to put them into contention for the title.

Shaver is literally the most recent coach on campus to win a natty.

Can someone explain why a team would be good in one or the other. I thought fast was fast...not fast in one and no place in the other. Seems really weird but I don't follow TF very much.

Different events and qualifications.

For indoor, you need to be top 16 (individual event)/top 12 (relay event) by the end of qualifying time. Distance Medley Relay (led by more distances schools) is at indoor nationals. 4x100m is not (LSU usually sends a team for that). No 100m/110m/400m hurdles. No 100m (60m is a much different race). Hammer throw vs. weight throw. No discus. No javelin.

Outdoor will have a regional qualifying meet for West and East. Top 48 individuals/top 24 relay teams go and compete at each. Top 12 in both individuals and teams go to the National Championships. From there, more heats/sections of competition. The events will continue to pile on.

Money is made in outdoor. It would not benefit some of our sprinters to add more and more races to their legs by running super competitively at indoor, then burn out when outdoor comes around. A lot of our best sprinters will run a handful of races just to make qualifying times and try to do well at indoor nationals, but it's just not the major focus.

Yes, the women will be a tough team to beat come Outdoor. You have Ofili in the short sprints, Armstrong in the short hurdles, Rose in mid distance, and some serviceable long hurdlers...combine that with the 4x1 relay.

The men have some work to do.

We could be top 10 in Men’s and Women’s outdoor. Potential winners on men’s side in the javelin and 400m hurdles. We should score in the sprints and relays. On the wonens side, Ofili will contend in the 200 and should score in the 100. We have a few others who could score in the sprints and 100m hurdles. Possible points in the field events on both sides. We haven’t had a dominant sprinter on the men’s side in a while…I’m thinking since Laird.

I forgot about Rose who should score in the women’s 800.

Shaver coasting after that men’s NC. Don’t get me wrong; I’m glad he won it, but he should have a lot more, both men’s and women’s.

Can confirm the monkey is off his back after 2021. Team should've won 2020 but COVID.
