Anyone else think that we "declined" to participate because Alleva plans to move on from Jones and doesn't want him potentially "saving face" by going to the NIT and potentially going far in it?

We couldn't go far in a state high school tournament....

Jones should have stepped down and let an assistant guide the team through the NIT. Less games for LSU, even in a lesser tourney, is not good for the program.

Seriously people, Simmons said he wasn't playing in the NIT and they backed out. Simple as that. We will see what comes out in the press but that is what happened. If Jones can keep his job after this I will be shocked.

I'm not sure I can buy this. If this happens it makes it a real, easy out for Jones. Easy for him and Alleva to lay all the seasons problems at Simmons feet and would probably cost Simmons millions as it would undoubtably hurt his draft status/marketing potential. Simmons wouldn't risk that so close to the money grab.

I really don't think it will come out that he did that but I believe that is what happened.

Did King and Alleva say no NIT tournament because it would cost athletics more money?

I do not believe that Coach Johnny Jones has the authority to make this decision. Approval for this move, had to come from above.

LSU would have had just about as good of a chance in the NIT as you would have in a spelling bee.

Has Simmons refused to play in the NIT and already left B.R. for Australia. I read that he is going to have Pro Day in Australia and has talked to an agent.

This is the worst case scenario because it means one player was bigger than the team.

You play in the NIT, and if Simmons wants to sit, you let him deal with the PR shitstorm, and LSU gets a small pass. If he did sit, the media would probably forgive the season, blaming it on Simmons not being a team player.

I like the move.

It gives Ben extra time in the classroom and with tutors to finish the semester strong!

I predict Ben makes the All Academic SEC Team in 2016-17.
