this was bound to happen. how else can we compete with auburn & alabama. those bags of money that show up at Cecil Newton's church don't just appear out of thin air.

If fans at the last minute don't go to the games just to save 40 bucks LSU could lose more at the snack window than they gain at the parking lot.

Guess they gotta compete with all those businesses and residents that charge to park near LSU's campus on gameday. But the ag center, Kirby Smith, law school, and many interior lots remain free. I guess those will fill up first now.

I'm all for this. The trash being left on campus the last few years is crazy. Time people start paying to dump their shite everywhere.

I agree. Some of our fans are pathetic with throwing their trash everywhere.

This is ridiculous. Isn't LSU a public school? Don't we pay taxes to support them? Anyone up for a class action suit to stop this?

They sure are public, and as a public institution they can raise their prices.
Quit bitching and next time pick up your shite.

We had to pay $20 to park on Mississippi State's campus back in 2001. So, I don't think this is that uncommon.

Then go around and punish those people. I don't leave trash all over my area of the hayfield lot, why should I pay?
I'm just going along with the trash angle, but don't think for a second that's what this charge is actually about.

Neither do I. The campus has been getting trashed by tailgaters for years.

Ok, to offset budget cuts.
Or how about just to make money in general? Hell you spend all day there, why shouldn't the University make money off of you? Sounds like smart business to me.

Didn't read all the shite posted, so i apologize if i'm repeating. But here's my take that i know you've been anxiously awaiting.
1) Gameday traffic will be horrendous. You think its bad now, wait till you have to wait for all 200,000+ people on campus waiting to park their cars in a lot, and have to fumble to get money. Plus there will be those out of staters who won't know about it. You will see lines for these parking lots that will go on for miles (literally).
2) The spots where i park (off of nicholson) where its free, will no longer be there. EVERYONE will be parking there now, and the congestion will get worse. Probably a good idea to start up a towing service, because next year will be a busy year.
3) To those that think this money is for cleanup....its not. There is already a budget for that, that they take into account every year. I don't know why people think picking up trash is all of a sudden a problem. FYI, LSU has been tailgating multiple years, and you'd think by now they would have budgeted tailgate cleanup.
All this is is a money grab. This is a knee jerk reaction to the "budget cuts". This is a failed idea, and it follows the Obama model. You might lose some money so the first reaction is to tax or in this case to impose fees on the "taxpayers" or fans. Right now, tickets are $650 for season tickets. So now you want me to pay $160-280 more to park? Where does it stop? Soon after you will see a tailgate fee to offset the losses of those that stop coming to the games. All the while, ticket prices will increase. Then people quit coming, more losses, and more fees, which will result in even more losses and absences.
Some people are saying, "well all they do is tailgate, they don't pay for anything". Untrue. There are those that tailgate that can't afford the game, but they still go with their kids, buy them food from vendors around the stadium, buy their kids shirts and souvenirs from the shops, explore the beautiful campus, and enhance a pride in their school. But now, sorry, you have to pay $300 for that experience because we can't manage our budget here at LSU.

But don't you agree that it will cut down on the number of cars on campus. Many will probably ride with someone and share the cost to park rather than take their own vehicle.

1. This will not even come close to offsetting budget cuts
2. LSU gets plenty of money from me on gamedays
This is a knee-jerk, money grab effort, plain and simple. You can spin it all you want, but it's a quick way for LSU to make a buck, while digging into our wallets just a little more and creating horrible logistic issues.

But it won't touch the traffic situation. Maybe a few less cars, but the line to get in will be much much longer. So therefore, there is no net gain to this.

If you get there early, you won't have to worry about it.

Yep, I'm no city planner or civil engineer, but doesn't making traffic 100X worse kinda offset the smaller amount of cars?

You fail to see what i'm saying. Traffic will get HORRIBLE. Regardless of how early you get there.
I don't park there, but it will still affect me. Because those lines to get into those lots, will interfere with my plans to get to my spot. More people will be parking on streets, and anyplace they can find and will cause traffic to come to a grinding halt.

Yall need to quit crying. I mean, why shouldn't you have to pay to park in those areas?
