I love this drill. Who has the fastest get off and hand placement wins. They have to stay square and drive with good lean. As soon as the position gets compromised they blow the whistle. It allows people getting taped to have a few extra minutes and cones to get set up for individual period.
It's not about knocking the shite out of the person in front of you. Way more football specific. Not to mention the kids love it and it's a great way to see if they're progressing with their indo drills.

put zero stock in the big cat when it comes to WRs
Yeah blocking as a WR in an offense that runs the ball 75% of the time is overrated.

I don't see freak do a whole lot. I hope he is working hard this off season. He needs to work to dominate this fall.

This x 100. Its also a good chance to get noticed by the coaches and team. If you are a young pup wanting a little PT, you gotta stand out somehow.

FWIW, that's also a high school senior vs. a college sophomore.
ETA: And Copeland is just an unstoppable force. Favorite player.

You can't take much away from these short clips of practice that the media are allowed to film. I too hope that he's working hard. I trust that he is, and that he will be a dominant force in the fall.
He already seems to play a key leadership role. I'm happy to see that.

There is always a reason for this. The coaches aren't usually going to display their best players in practice. It has always been this way, if you think that because he isn't in the big cat drill or other clips that he isn't working hard I think you're off base.
I'm hoping that he'll be in the big cat drill for the spring game. Les holding out on him for the big show.

I know they are both Dlineman, but I want to see Mickey vs Freak Johnson.

You hardly ever saw Ried and TM7 going either.

what you see of Copeland in this drill is the same thing you see of him in games just straight mauling people. Avery is one I look forward to getting a top spot in 2014. I still believe that Dural will be the breakout young star in 2013 though.

I'm loving the footage of the receiving drills, and we even saw some option from practice! who was that running that? Jennings? (I don't know all the QB numbers except for Mett, Rivers, and Bolden)
Boone was funny when he didn't come up with the catche behind the blocking dummies, you can hear him react to not catching a pass. and I'm impressed with how much faster the ball is zipping out of Mett's hands

If the Samoan gets his technique down, holy smokes he could be a road grader.
I also love how Les seems to be concentrating more on teaching the OL this spring.
and boy does Stud look fat

I don't think he needs to prove anything to anyone at this point.
Granted, it would be sweet to see him match up against someone. I'd also like to see Ego in this drill.
Beginning of the video.
Freak vs. Williford
Ferguson vs. Collins (Collins got antsy, don't get to see much)
I've noticed a lot of the videos circulating don't get the beginning of the drill.
From what I've seen, the the Big Cat usually starts with these 2 matchups, and they seem to be pretty even. Freak is quicker out of his stance than Williford, so he can usually jolt Josh back, but once engaged, Williford has good power to even it out. I'd give Collins a slight edge over Ferguson more often than not.
