Charlie Coates was afraid the Tiger uniforms would look lame compared to Tulane's. He bought ribbons to spruce up ours. The store had purple and gold already in but the green had yet to arrive.

Mardi Gras please explain I’m a little late to the game as to how that coordinated to School Colors?
Mardi Gras colors are Purple, Gold and Green.

The FIRST LSU-Tulane game was played close to Mardi Gras season.

The teams decorated their generic uniforms with ribbon.

Tulane bought all the GREEN ribbon from a local department store and LSU was stuck with the "Sloppy Seconds" PURPLE and GOLD ribbon.......

Mardi Gras story sums up that LSU took the purple and gold and Tulane took the green. Look it up; that’s where their colors originated.

purple and gold is such a unique color scheme

I don’t know anything about art, but I suppose that purple and gold complement each other.
So does orange and blue

And so do red and green for Christmas.

Obviously none of us would be fans and the University would have long since shut down.
