I guess Sikhs can't complain about not being allowed to be pictured in any LSU publications. Or female Muslims who wear a hajib.

I really think you are overestimating how much people care about this. The painted posse guy doesn't even seem to care that much

Yea that post reads that way, but whether people are truly upset or not (I'm not...) the point is the same - LSU opened itself up to criticism when it couldve easily been avoided...

The LSU student section does not care about your G rated attempts at whimsical phrases. Or did the largely hammered drunk, "suck that Tiger dick, bitch" chanting group of thousands lead you to believe otherwise?

I fail to see your point bro? Are you saying our attempts to be good examples don't work? Are you saying that our statement was a failed attempt at being funny? Or that people care less what we spell? Regardless your statement made zero sense in the context.

What does this mean? Good examples of fans, college students, what?

They don't care what you spell.

who cares? LSU used their rights to make the photo universally appealing. No one is stopping them from wearing the cross or expressing their religion in anyway (however annoying the Refuge may be)

it is a good photo, and they can use it however they like. I always get a chuckle about the self-perceived persecution of Christians.

I don't believe anyone has claimed religious or personal persecution here. It was just a pointless exercise by LSU that was certain to create controversy.

My beef is that it didn't have to happen. Someone made the decision to make this happen.

While I disagree with LSUs decision to retouch the photo, it is easily their right to do so.

The most disappointing thing to me about this thread is the attacks by some ranters on the kids that do this. Reading the article, they don't seem to be the ones complaining so I guess I don't understand some of the shite thrown their way.

Pretty sure that last years schedule poster has a line calling Tiger Stadium a "cathedral of college football" and "worship happens here".

those are called metaphors. you can read more about them in books or on the internet. and, unless the crosses themselves are metaphors for something else entirely, your argument is invalid.

Someone cares. At least 3 or 4 people in this thread have asked what they spelled. One even after he told us.

We get asked every game by numerous students and non-students. Whether or not you believe it, people do watch. Which is why we are going to have to be even more above reproach from here on out. The media is going to be watching us like hawks to see if we screw things up.

Seems dumb and completely unnecessary. You wouldn't even notice it otherwise.

Not wanting to be affiliated with Christianity =/= Anti-Christianity.

I'm not suggesting our Admin should've added distinctly Christian symbols, Scriptures, or the like into a photo.

What happened (as I understand it) is that they acted to specifically remove an already existing Christian symbol for the express purpose of securing some sort of politico-religious "neutral" position. In so doing they expressed the equal and opposite force of anti-Christianity.

The idea that any entity can function as worldview neutral is whimsical. Some worldview will be espoused. In this case, an anti-Christian one was. They expressed a worldview in their actions and whether it's called "religion" or "philosophy" or "political" it's one and the same where the rubber meets the road.

BTW, just curious as to who did they think would have been offended if the photo had been left as-is?

it isn't about offending people. they simply didn't wanna put a cross on an official LSU photo because doing so could open them up to controversy

some group seeing a cross on an LSU photo could try and cause a shitstorm over it just like some people are trying to cause drama over them taking it out

Then we arrive back at the original point. If you want to use my likeness, use my likeness. Don't, however, alter my likeness to portray me in a way that I do not approve of.

Removing religious symbolism that is intentionally and specifically added every game falls into this category. LSU was being greedy. "Hey- these guys are spirited and look intense- let's use their photo! Oh wait, they paint crosses on themselves every game... well, let's just airbrush that and compare it to wrinkled jersey edits or making Saban look thin."

I'd feel ripped off if I specifically went out of my way to identify myself by my religion every gameday then LSU mis-characterized me to make me look secular when I am trying to present myself as otherwise.

LSU should have chosen another picture instead of photo-shopping one

just dumb on LSU's part IMO
