LSU removed it because some people are so easily offended. In doing so, they caused other people to become too easily offended.
You can't do anything without offending someone these days.

They Removed it because they wanted to use the picture and didn't want to promote one religion over another. THey didn't stencil in cresents and jewish stars.

Let me ask yall this...what if that was a group of muslim students who had a crescent moon and star painted on their chests, and they removed the symbols...would their be an uproar then?

I'm not reading all this but any decent lawyer could sue the pants off LSU for this. Have dealt with Entertainment/Advertising contracts for four years, some sentence waiver on a ticket doesn't cut it. LSU has been sued over less.

Yep. I said the same thing and I've deal with entertainment/advertising contracts for 2 decades.

Based on that line of thinking, LSU should have altered the pic to remove references to LSU so as to avoid ties to 1 university. We can't offend fans of Oo-La-La, Redneck Tech or any others, now can we?

Yeah, when you used that ticket to get into the game, you agreed to the contract.
Nope. You pay to attend games and are not paid to attend unless you are on scholarship as a player or in Tiger Band, cheerleader or official paid university representative.

There is a difference between using the images and manipulating the images. That is the issue. Even if they had a sentence referencing manipulation, still wouldn't hold up in court.

You are correct. By manipulating the image, LSU pushed the envelope because by all the legal contracts I've seen, they are not allowed to do so without permission of the person. In the LSU Tiger Stadium Information page this is found:
Cameras
quote:.
Cameras are permitted in Tiger Stadium for both fans and working news media. All photos taken in Tiger Stadium must be for editorial or personal use only and may not be used for advertising, promotions or other trade purposes, or any other commercial or promotional endeavor, without the permission of LSU. Contact the LSU Office of Finance and Administrative Services at (225) 578-3386 with any questions
Hmmm.

LSU does not own your image, my image or the ones that they altered in this advertisement. There's nothing in the guidelines that state they have the permission to alter your image.

The bottom information is neither here nor there. LSU sets its own policy in regards to its own proprietary images.
For photo manipulation, you have to have a waiver signed by the person to manipulate the image.
LSU can use the images because it expressly states you waive that right by entering or participating in the activity but in effect, you are distorting that person's property (image) when it is is manipulated and goes outside the stated or implied agreement.
I should have went to law school.

Really, exactly what would you sue them for? Violating their own freedom of speech by censoring their own intellectual property for use in an email survey.
Now they could have a potential lawsuit had they left them in. Obviously.

Let me take a photo of you. I'll airbrush a penis on your forehead. I'll publish said photo. Then get back to me.

well you could actually make a case for damages in that situation.
What would be the damages arising from this?

Based on your argument, you let me take a photo of you. I own the photo. I can do what I want on it because it's not impeding upon your rights or mine to put penis' on your forehead. I mean, you lent me use of your image.
You own your personal image. You lend LSU the right to use that image at their discretion, without alteration or manipulation.
/end

Very well stated. I do believe, because college athletics is a billion dollar industry, that eventually schools are not going to be allowed to use images as they have been doing. Heck, they wouldn't use an image of Shaquille at a game in an ad without paying him (or any other famous LSU athlete).

You don't know what intellectual property is do you? It's not a photo.
