comparing him to Randall Gay is a big stretc

I think Gay was actually a good comparison. both were solid players in college who were beaten out for starting roles by younger/ more talented guys. big thing with trying to project McCray is him playing nickel back so much when he'll be a safety if he makes it in the NFL. we know he can't cover guys 1 on 1, but he won't be asked to, and he has good size and speed for the safety position.

oh btw, Blue ran like a sub 4.4. he had exceptional speed even if it didn't seem to translate to the field.

Taylor was 209lbs and ran a 4.64 at the combine. 13 bench reps

Yeah I wasnt totally sure. I know he is taller.
He also got an invite to the combine and McCray didnt, that should tell you something. What did Taylor run at Pro day?

Curtis Taylor was overrated by the LSU fanbase.

And McRay was a better tackler than Taylor was.

I know, but it appears the NFL is and I just wondered who is correct.

If so why did one get the invite to the combine and one didnt. He was overrated by scouts too?

the other 2 are debatable.

No, not even close to debatable. The comments on McCray which about 99% of the fanbase agrees just isn't much of a football player isn't close to the few that said the same about Curtis Taylor or Randall Gay. That is a huge stretch.

And Taylor was MUCH better in coverage than McCray ever was.

NOBODY and I mean NOBODY has made me cringe more often in coverage than McCray in the last decade. McCray was a poor tackling LB posing as a DB. The worst was when a few people actually pretended he was a decent safety over a nickel-back when in reality he was almost as bad there.

exactly, people only remember Gay as being a Super Bowl champion these days.

But back at LSU people said the same things about him that they say about McCray.

Curtis Taylor was bashed too at times as someone who couldnt cover.

Harry Coleman too.

most LSU fans are otherwise clueless, for the most part.

I would have to agree. In the past couple of years LSU boys have not performed as well in the 225 as expected. I trained under moffit and his guys for a couple year, and he is very intense! Their workout enables them to throw people around, but not stick around for the long haul. IMO the NFL wants a guy who can still be pushing people around in the 4th quarter. Good news for these guys is....with a little different training it is easy to change.

No arguement here. I just think that McCray although a great guy, just wasnt a very good football player. There was nothin in his game that says NFL caliber to me. I may be n the minority, but I doubt it. At least Taylor would lay lick and had decent cover skills. DM would whif on ankle tackles and always let a receiver slip behind coverage. His 4.4 speed never chased down a wr that got behind him. I dont think that speed translated to the field very well. IMHO

It hasnt really happened with the lineman we have in the league lately. They do well n college, but it isnt translating to the league. Take Lavalais for example, couldnt even make a squad, but a beast in college. Kyle Williams is the only success we have had in a while

Jarvis Green i'd say has had a solid career. Just signed another multi-year deal.

Marcus Spears has been a routine starter for Dallas' 3-4 for a while now.

Glenn Dorsey has been solid, just everyone is stuck up on his draft spot and he's playing out of position in a 3-4.

I was merely refering to their ability to change muscle endurance. What they make/ don't make of themselves is a whole different thing! Hopefully this crop will show improvement in the league. Some of them have struggled through college, but have the assests to be great players at the next level. I guess only time will tell.

LSU has a nice amount of starting lineman in the league, offensive and defensively

I know and I agree. Good info. Nice to have a convo with objective and informative fans now and then.

I guess youre right, just more failures than successes. I dont know if I put Dorsey in the success catergory yet, but I talked to Rudy Niswanger the other day and he said he poised for a good season and Tyson is coming around.

lack of strength + lack of speed + lack of quickness = can't control the lines of scrimmage... perhaps we see the problem with the football team
