He has seen extensive action in all 3 years he has played. I think that is worthy of his 4 star recruiting ranking

Each individual playing along the offensive line. If these guys don't step up individually and as an unit we're in for a long season.

Richard Murphy. I have been expecting big things from this guy and he has been good at times but not what I thought he would be.

I agree. He could be the key to the entire defense. He can be a Dorsey-like disruptive force if he's in good enough shape to actually stay on the field.

who said anything about being hyped? the subject just says player that needs to step it up, and I say Jefferson. not comparing performance based on the number of stars next to their name coming out of high school

eta: figuratively step it up, and literally step up in the pocket (if there is one... OL needs improvement as well)

Barkesdale in particular on that o-line.

Agree, but the rest of his post said something to the effect of "based on the hype" so I took it literally. Agree JJ needs to step up, his leadership skills are severely lacking. I don't know if Crowton/Miles can teach him that, or if it's a lost cause. I hope someone else on offense will be a leader this year.

There is no one player. The unit that needs to step up the most is the offensive line.

Jefferson was a pretty prized recruit coming out of high school.

Agreed.

I also think Brandon Taylor needs to have a good year if we're going to win 9 games.

Jai is a good one, but I am going with Coach Stud. Many of Jefferson's problems will be solved with a good OL (including the running game).

we can only hope... maybe Barksdale will lead the OL by example and have a great year?

Shep just seems like a leader in any interview I've seen with him... it just depends on the players and who they like to listen to, though.

Need to? Russel Shepard and Terrance Tolliver. They both need to play lights out for us to not lose 4 or 5.

The right answer is all of them. With the exception of Patrick Peterson, none of them have yet to live up to expectations, either based on their recruiting hype (i.e. a 5 star recruit like Toliver) or the position they play (QB for a top 10 college program a la Jefferson).

The Tigers need every offensive lineman to elevate their game. Randle and Toliver need to play like 5 star WRs. Benton need to be an athletic freak TE, at least one or two of the RBs need to play as well as Charles Scott circa 2008. Jefferson needs to be a leader and not play afraid.

The same is true on defense at every position (except #7. He just needs to play like he did last year).

They need to stop being a "talented" team and become a team full of winners.
