I'm not saying that he isn't deserving of the 5-star ranking. What I am saying is that it is probably more difficult to gauge how offensive linemen will pan out than it is to evaluate any other position - especially when it comes to playing early.

I always thought it was the other way around lol. I've always been told that when you advance from a level, say high school to college that defensive back was the most difficult. I feel like lineman can advance a level and perform well immediately. Ex. most lineman taken in the NFL draft I feel like always start immediately, they obviously aren't all good, but you usually don't see a corner or a WR being a clear starter until at least later in the season. Unless your name is Odell I guess......

He's plenty big and strong enough. I've seen him bench pressing plenty of future college d ends like they were 8th graders. It's going to be how fast he can learn the system, make calls, adapt to checks etc

With the great Freshmen and RF along with Pocic, Hawk and Vadal, the OL could actually be better next year. With a more experienced QB and a quartet of great backs the offense could be exciting; in a different way than 2013 obviously but Jet sweeps and screens properly executed with that kind of power run game can initiate a lot of scoring.

I've seen a lot of posts from users thinking he won't make an immediate impact and I'm wondering if I'm just totally missing something? He's not going to have to gain weight, according to 247 he's 6'4 1/2 and 340 pounds. I don't think they would give a kid five stars just based on his size, I would assume he has at least above average footwork and good strength. But I played WR and DB in high school so maybe I'm out of my element.

Past OL here, Oline is mostly about technique, IMO. There's plenty of big boys that are athletic, but don't have the right technique. From footwork to hand placement to pad level. Not to mention learning blocking schemes and how to use those schemes against different defenses and various blitzes.

It's a very cerebral position. Great offensive linemen have to be smart, not just big physical specimens.

Needless to say, it may take a freshmen OL a little bit to catch up the the collegiate level of technique and schemes.

I would be happy if we can just get at least one of Hawkins or Alexander to come back. I think there is a fair chance that Alexander would slide back out to RT if he stays and Hawkins goes, with Pocic moving out to LT. Plenty of choices and talent to fill in at G/C.
