Exactly. Etling left a lot to be desired as a starting QB. He struggled with the deep ball and never consistently mastered the intermediate throws of 10-20 yards down the field. His stats against Alabama just 12-26 137 yds 1 Int. I doubt any team will be able to just crowd the line of scrimmage to stop the run, and dare Burrow to complete passes over the top.

I resent that Orgeron cites his "record breaking performances" as evidence why he's the right guy for the job. It's disingenuous. We all know that he got to tee off against doormats, and that was Cam Cameron's offense, not his.

We still don't know what his offense will look like here.

The article clearly explains the LSU offense of the last few years. Like the others, I'm not sure why the writer would use the Alabama game as an example of Ensminger's offense, especially with Etling having one of his worst games as an LSU Tiger.

As many have said on here before, it's not like we need to totally reinvent a new and unique offense. The Ensminger offense, especially as the writer described it, will get more skilled athletes involved to, hopefully, move away from the predictability of our stagnant offenses of past.

We will see quick slants, over the middle, and curl routes along with the deep ball. With the speed of our freshman running backs and CEH, we will also still break the long runs like we have in the past.

Now, the first game, Miami, will, I believe, give a true glimpse of what is or isn't. Don't give any excuses..."We're young!" "It's a New Offense!" "Inexperienced Linemen!" I expect a top flight, highly productive team to hit the field and execute with minimal errors.

Go Tigers!

Really? None of those "record breaking performances" would have come to fruition if Cam Cameron had stayed on as Offensive Coordinator.

Knocking the coach who finally pushed on the gas pedal to get the damn car moving down the highway faster than grandma speed simply doesn't wash.

The 2016 offense was what it was, and when Steve Ensminger replaced Cam Cameron, the offense moved into another gear.

I really missed this last year.

Who cares about record breaking performances? I care that we get the W, and there isn't one game that LSU won that season that I feel the fired regime wouldn't have won. In fact, the consensus is that we probably win Florida, one O lost.

He had a chance to really prove himself and did next to nothing vs Alabama.

“Left a lot to be desired”

But yet he was a NFL draft choice, signed a multi million dollar contract, and got a six-figure signing bonus from the New England Patriots.

I don't know how this could be said with any certainty. Ensminger himself admitted he was running Cam's offense with a couple of tweaks. We gashed some woeful run defenses that season.

“The old offense moved into another gear”

The LSU O in 2016 average 28 points per game and 427 total yds a game. Our 2015 offense scored 33 points a game and averaged 437 yards a game.

I’m not going to pretend to know what the 2018 offense will produce, but I didn’t see anything special going on in the 2016 O Other than running up the score on some pretty weak defense of teams.

I think The bigger point is we were cruising on the downhills, the Missouri’s and Souther Miss on the schedule, and then we hit a brig wall against decent defenses.

im sure LSU still would have rushed for over two hundred yards a game against those horrific defenses.

until they played good defenses. That florida defense was without a ton of starters and the red zone offense was terrible.

I believe the TE’s will be involved quite a bit. Of course 5 wide can flex a TE or two. I hate Petigrew went down because he is a big weapon n the passing game. But we still have Foster Moss and Jacory. I still believe Jacory can be a force n passing game even though he’s #3 on DC now. 5 wide may be a formation we see him though

That system promises to look more like the plan that LSU brought into the Alabama game back in 2016, emphasizing spread sets and pass options attached to the running game.

We scored 0 points that game.

0 points.

0.

That doesn’t change what he did at LSU. We played a game last season in which our receivers caught zero total passes. In another game, our receivers caught 1 total pass. In 8 quarters vs Alabama his offense scored 10 total points. He got zero points and 61 yards at home in the first half vs a sun belt team that we eventually lost to. He had no pocket presence and bailed far too early after one initial read. Our second leading receiver was a running back

And all those record breaking performances under Ensminger - in two of the games an LSU back set the single game rushing record, and in a third Guice had 250 while Fournette had over 100. Go back and look at the defensive ranks of Ole Miss, Missouri, and Arkansas that year. It’s all a big joke
