LSU fans should feel flattered that we are in at 9. When you look at the traditions of the ones ahead of us, it's pretty powerful company. The fact that Alabama is in there ribs like a rock in my shoe but they have the numbers.

I think a #9 ranking is appropriate. Immediately after reading the title of the thread, my reaction was that LSU was a solid top 15 , and I figured we'd be around #12. I kind of expected Penn State and FSU would be ahead of us. However, after looking at the list, I do not believe we belong in the top 8, but I can now certainly agree with a #9 ranking. FSU prior to Bobby Bowden was insignificant. The same can be said of Florida prior to Spurrier. Frankly , I had no idea PSU had only 2 national titles. What really helps us is Billy Cannon and the 1958 title.

But what FSU did between 1987 and 2001 has never been equaled... All those years finishing in the top 5 is an amazing stat.... And I don't care WHO you play.......

Lsu is a top 10 program in football, a top 20 team in basketball and a top 5 in college baseball.

This means that lsu fans take a back seat to no one.

Agree. They had a run some time ago, but more media hype more than real success. I think Gophers one up them.

Look at their TOTAL wins and get back to the rest of us living in the real world.

You can't be serious.

Granted, I think Michigan only has one consensus national championship in the poll era, but look at the total wins and conference championships. They and Chicago were also the only relevant powers outside of the Ivy League in the early days of the sport.

But you think Minnesota one-ups them in the history of college football?

I think number 9 is a pretty good spot on this list...

I would agree with this assessment. #9 seems high to me but I'll take it.

Actually Florida St was lower than LSU.

I'm pretty sure they were still a women's teachers college when we won our first NC.

I can't quibble with these rankings.

I'm good with a top ten program. As long as we're staying in top ten them were competing for titles every few years and winning every now and then. We're due for another.. It happens this year.

Nebraska is no longer relevant. Notre Dame is barely relevant after being completely irrelevant for 15 years or more. They're using bogus criteria. History matters, but it matters less than recent success. Titles won in the 2000's should carry more weight than titles won in the 1970's, which should carry more weight than titles won in the 1920's.

By their metric, Minnesota should be in the conversation. They were absolutely dominant before WWII. Hell, why not Yale?
